"And what does January hold? Clean account books. Bare diaries. Three hundred and sixty five new days, neatly parcelled into weeks, months, seasons. A chunk of time, of life..those first few notes like an orchestra tuning up before the play begins" Phyllis Nicolson
...written in 1947 by a mathematician who might also have been a scrapbooker. Because that's what we love about the turn of the year, isn't it? Bare diaries. Clean account books. A fresh page, a new notebook, an empty album. Anyone who loves paper knows what it is to choose a crisp sheet of cardstock, to make the first cut into a piece of patterned paper, to unfurl a roll of wrapping paper, or lift a pencil to the opening line of a page.
We get to start again, every time. And, if we so wish it - need it, even - at the end of the year, we can click the rings shut, fold the binder up, put it away on the shelf, forget about it and walk forwards instead. Because the wonder of it all is that the album will remain there, ready: all those days and weeks and seasons all parcelled up, for when we need them. The wonder for scrapbookers is that we can have it both ways. we can turn forwards and backwards at will; and that's why I keep coming back to putting scissors to patterned paper. That's my memory keeping way. Maybe yours is slightly different. But let's keep practising it. We have years, yet, to parcel; so here's wishing you a new package of brown paper, and a big ball of string, and some ribbons too, maybe, to tie it all up just the way you like it. Happy New Year!
And because what is a post without a picture? A page about one of our favourite events of 2015

Happy New Year to you Sian. Did your daughter like the album you made for her?
A new year and another new start - there's nothing nicer. A pretty layout Sian x
I love new starts, new years and all the possibilities that they have in store. Happy 2016.
Clean & fresh note books, journals, & new underwear too. A brand new 365 day trip around the sun - I'm in. I do like your reflective thoughts about why you (we) scrap book. Happy 2016.
I always find it a little difficult to click those rings shut, in years when I have lost someone dear to me, but walk forwards we must. Happy New Year to you and yours Sian.
I love starting a new notebook, album, finding a new word to guide me, and thinking about all the possibilities for the New Year! One of my pleasures every year is visiting here for inspiring layouts, and thoughtful, beautifully written posts. Happy New Year to you and yours!

Each year, you come up with a new and fresh way to inspire us. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us this year! Happy 2016 to you!
Love what you wrote there about closing the book and moving forward, so lovely! And that photo & page of the up-do is so pretty! The splatters make me happy too! Hugs!
Oh, I LOVE that quote! I had not seen it before! Your page is lovely! I love to come and see what you're up to.
Happy New Year!!!
Happy New Year, it has been a real pleasure to follow your stories and see your pages and I look forward to continuing to do so this year. New year for me is always tinged with the gloom of returning to work, Christmas is such a wonderful family time it is the hardest one to go back after :)
I love the new year and the fresh start, I always feel so much more creative. Happy New Year to you, I hope it's a good one :)
I'll skim quickly past the idea of the accounts [in denial about my tax return ...] and skip to the part where I with you the happiest of new years ahead. x
Happy New Year to you & yours Sian. x
Happy New Year Sian! Yay a fresh scrapbook. I need to get my skates on and start producing more pages for 2015 now :)
I love the New Year with fresh starts, and a chance to look back and learn. Make new plans, new promises to self, and move forward.
I love this quote too Sian, though for me the account book was not clean... it was a first year of submitting accounts and so weeks of preparing paperwork, recording figures, and stressing when I couldn't fathom out the online system. All done now! Phew! Like I said. New plans and promises to self - to keep things better organised so that next year will be easier. I hope your own year ahead will ne stress free and full of good things.
Like you I love the new year for those reasons but I also love September for its feeling a fresh start from my school days. I may not use actual paper anymore in my scrapbooking because let's face it in trying to downsize the supplies were just taking up too much room but I love my/our albums and digi books. A very, very belated Happy New Year Sian.
