Summer's Swansong: A Random Friday Post

There's a school uniform being put on here as I write. I can hear the banging of drawers as she tries to find all the right bits. So I guess that's the sound of the end of the summer, then. There'll be a few more days of freedom next week; but today's afternoon Sixth Form meeting is a signal that the end is near.

So I'm sitting here looking through the last few pages of my Dangerous Notebook, the one in which I scribble my ideas for blog posts and pages and I'm seeing a few oddments of summer chat which I should share now before it's too late.

I have

- A page title and plan I haven't got round to: When Good Traffic Goes Bad about the lengths we went to amusing ourselves as we drove back up England. "Guess what's in that Poundstretcher Lorry" was a low point.

- A layout which made me gulp:

This one was published in Scrap365 way back when. But it never made its way here; and, when I found it the other day, I thought..wow..what a difference. That's four years ago. That's why we scrapbook. It was, I think, published in an article on quick-to-make pages: a couple of pictures, a few strips of patterned paper to anchor them, and a big title which does double duty as journaling. I might try that again, soon.

- Quote of the holiday: "I've added all the places we are going to into the weather app on my phone. Big mistake."

- Second best quote of the holiday (thank you the Ship's Captain's Grandmother) "There's just enough blue sky up there to make a sailor a pair of trousers."

- A little snatch of a story..
"So do we have an emergency plan in place?" asked The (Not So) Small One, as she watched her brother lift a sack of charcoal and haul it towards the garden. "I mean in case of an actual..um, you know..emergency.."

"We'll have to trust him, " I said. " We'll just have to trust him and believe that he understands that if the shed goes on fire, he'll have to paint it. All over again."

His head popped round the door. This is my BBQ. My rules." he said. "So you have five minutes to put in your orders before I go to the butchers and buy...whatever I want. Big style. Today," he said happily as he lifted his car keys from the kitchen table, " has the air of Anything Can Happen Thursday."

And's that me for today. A little bit of everything? Maybe I should have called it Anything Can Happen Friday? Go on..if you haven't posted for a while..make it happen..

Great post! That LO is so cute. It is always fun to look back and see how styles and product have changed.

What fun reading! And four years certainly makes a difference---until they hit their late 20's and then it seems to slow down a bit. The quote about the blue sky reminds me of one by a tour guide in Alaska when there was a tiny patch of blue sky as we sailed into a bay: "We call them sucker holes. Only a sucker thinks it means clearing skies." We've been calling them sucker holes ourselves ever since.

The barbeque story is definitely a laugh out loud kind.

it's sad to think summer is nearly over although I love September. It's interesting too to see how our style changes over the years, I love the layout.

Let's hope the garden shed survives. I am not sure what my girl would say about uniform in the sixth form or meetings in the holidays but I can make a good guess!

Noooo! Please don't say that Summer is almost over. Surely not? It will hit home next week when I have to take my girl to enrol at college.

Trilby and your Tall One have a similar viewpoint about a) BBQs and b) the joy of an anything can happen day...

P.S. The Jam exhibition is on until the end of September... I'd be happy to go again ;)

I like the sayings about snippets of blue sky :-)
I have booked my annual week with the children this week at the end of the summer holiday, for the first and last time, it has back-fired, everyone is mentioning back to school, autumn, and the christmas stock started arriving at work before I left for my summer holiday, I won't make this mistake again :-) Of course I am enjoying it anyway :-)

What an absolutely lovely post with so many FUN bits & pieces! I'd love a peek into the Dangerous Notebook, sounds similar to one I have going. Hmmm . . . maybe I can pull together one of these "snippets" type posts soon. Thanks for the INSPIRATION!

My paternal grandmother used to say that about blue sky! I haven't heard it for years ... I do like your page - the pretty patterned border just pulls those colours together nicely. I'm smiling about the shed and the BBQ. Oh, and I'd wanted to ask you when you'd written on here about Southampton and St. Andrews, whether that meany you'd really driven all that way - clearly you did! Golly ...

Round here we say enough blue sky to make a dutchman a pair of trousers - which all my Dutch friends find really funny!!

Really lovely layout - I keep a little book of everything I make and cross it out as I blog it - I have some old stuff to share but I might just keep it for Blogtoberfest when I will be struggling to find something to blog on a daily basis

Brilliant quotes. I can imagine the discussion around the pound stretcher lorry - that made me giggle. Beautiful layout too. Clinging desperately on to the holidays here for a few more days...

Hello, Just hopped over from another blog for inspiration and can see I will get it here - lovely blog, I enjoyed skimming through - (but will read properly in future!) and since I also need to get my scrapbook mojo dusted off, will be looking for new ideas. Thank you :-)

Love that holiday quote! I'll have to remember not to load destinations into the app. :)
