Scrapbooking From a Sketch

...or a layered template. Your choice.

How do I make a start when I'm planning a page? Mmm..most of the time I pull out all the pieces I know are stuffed in bags and boxes and I pile them up on my desk and then, gradually, I start laying them out on a fresh sheet of cardstock. I shuffle and stir and move it all around. Sometimes I'll think I'm done and I'll walk away; and then when I come back I swipe the whole lot right off the page and begin again. Is that what's called working organically? Or possibly just making it up as you go along?

Either way, I very rarely use a sketch. Unless, that is, someone clever points me in the right direction, or prods me pretty hard towards something I might like. And so we have my version:

From High In The Sky for Get It Scrapped

of Get It Scrapped's latest sketch and layered template. (Number 100, as it turns out: that's quite a lot of inspiration..)

You might recognise the photo: it's one I took when I was telling the story of the Cola kit we received as a Christmas gift. It was about time that tale made it onto a page. After all, we've still got the box of cheese making equipment to cover...

...we're building up to that one.

For now, I've gone a bit Stars and Stripes . With those new Converse in the house, how could I resist?

Great layout - I love the navy/white spot background and your interpretation of the sketch. Brave of you to make your own cola too :)

I found I often think in sketches and I take photos. I like the US theme here and the stylish photo. Have good memories at making root beer in the under stair cupboard.

That spotty paper is fabulous! You know me, I like a good sketch.

That dark blue paper is a splendid foil for your photos and story ... and the little cork strip is a great contrast.

You may have used a sketch, but it still has all the trademarks we've come to love on your layouts. I love polka-dots and I love navy, so the background really speaks to me!

Your layouts are always such a treat to study, Sian. I love looking at all the lovely details. Super love the "love it love it love it..." along the bottom! :o)

good to see your photo made it onto a layout...and a very pretty one at that. I always find a sketch a challenge.

Great layout - even though you have used a very dark background, your photo and layers really pop off the page. Must admit I use sketches 90% of the time as a starting point for my layouts

I rarely use sketches myself. Whenever I try, my layouts never come out like the sketch anyway. I'm like you---I just start moving things around until I like the way it looks.

Lovely page and I love that busy background paper. Geez, I can't do a page without a sketch. I love hearing the scrapping process of other scrappers. I glue down as I go and consequently unglue also along the way. ;)

Love the background paper, how it ties in and helps the most important part of the page pop. Have wondered a few times if ya'll continued to make cola or if it was a one and done thing.

What a happy page with that bright background & I like how you adapted the sketch to fit your photo!

That is a lovely layout. I scrap in very much the same way :)

It looks great - I'm not good at doing sketches but a template seems to work for me. Funny the difference.
