Me On Monday

Me on Monday?

Sshh..don't tell anyone. It'll be our secret. I'm thinking about leaving the crochet mid- croche and moving on to a bit of knitting. The Granny Square enlargement project continues, but it's taking its time and refusing to finish, even though I worked hard on it this week and last. I need a diversion; and oh, I have an itch to slip a stitch or two and try my hand at something for my feet. Socks!

It's that self striping wool. Ever since I knitted the baby blankets last summer, I've been in its thrall. Have you ever seen anything more trickily perfect than self patterning wool? I'd like a ball (or two) in every pattern ever invented, please, and soon.

But for now I'm telling myself that socks would be useful: a good thing to understand how to do. And when the creative urge is upon me, it would be just plain (or purl?) wrong to ignore it. I will learn how to make socks, with the very much appreciated help of one of the best knitters I know, Lea over at Freeze Frame. Thanks Lea!

So, if I knit now, I'll be stepping away from the crochet. It was quite a weekend of crochet. And confectionery ( we posted a box of Easter treats to some friends in California). And contact lenses (sorry, I seem to have let you inherit my bad eyes). And concert recovering (after a stormin' Easter school show on Thursday night). And clapping and cheering (Ireland won the Six Nations). And cake. Of course cake: we found a book we've been meaning to try. .

I expect there'll be more cake this week. Let's hope so..

Last week Ladkyis, Eileen T, Helena, Ruth, Rinda, Jane, Abi, Deb, Miriam, Alison, Barbara and KarmaCraft all gave us a Monday wave. Go on, give 'em a wave back. Or do a Monday of your own? We always happy to cheer you on at the start of the week. Have a good one!

I too am in the thrall of self-patterning yarn. But I am knitting in Aran at the moment, a throw perhaps or a larger blanket for a baby. Who knows, perhaps it will become a sampler blanket made up of tension squares and crochet practise squares.

yeah to self patterning yarn - its like the page turner of knitting and crochet - the need to work just another row to see what happens with the colours.

I've never made socks - a friend who makes them a lot always works on both at the same time to ensure they are the same and to avoid 'second sock despondency syndrome'. Looking forward to watching your progress

The wool looks great. Looking forward to seeing the socks.

I have that wool in exactly the same colour and I can't tell you just how amazing it looks when it's knitted up. Good luck with the socks but I have to warn you they are addictive!

I wake up to your blog every day and it always makes me smile! I say go ahead and make the socks. A smaller project will be satisfying to complete! Then you'll be ready to get back to the blanket. I'm sort of in the same boat, but I need to have mine finished for a graduation gift in May. I need to keep plugging along!

make the socks, I might even join you!

Yes, dare! Socks are my absolute favourite thing to knit but as Jo has already mentioned, they ARE addictive. Since I learned to make them about two years ago I've knit 14 pairs. But, who doesn't need socks? It's hard to resist those lovely self-patterning balls of yarn!

Beginning in spring you want to knit wool socks? But everyone thinks it's a splendid idea, so I must just be out of the purl (I assume that's like a loop?)! Carry on.

Go on ... make the socks. I double dare you!!

Loving the wool :)
I'm not a great knitter so I'll be keeping an eye out to see how the socks go x

What a great idea! And I remember you saying you have little feet so they will be finished in no time ;-)

Very excited to hear that you are trying sock knitting. They take some time but the outcome of all of those delicate stitches is amazing. I have to get back to the second sock of a pair I started last year. I got the "second sock blues". Maybe I left it to pick up my crocheting again. LOL

Go for it! By the way, I'm loving these photos of you. I remember the blog days when you were too shy to include your face in any of your photos!

I'm thinking I need to try the self patterning yarn.

Personally, I always have more than one project on the go cos I can get bored so it means I have a choice if I'm bored with my other project. I love self colouring striped wool especially in pinks.
Oooh cakes in a mug sounds great for a singleton like me

Looking forward to seeing the finished item(s).....I have a friend who loves knitting socks, but I've never tried them...I have a bit of a hankering to try to renew my relationship with knitting, but am not sure I could even ffollowa basic pattern anymore! Xx

I knitted my first pair of socks over a period of YEARS. It took me nearly that long to do one and then next to no time to do the other. I posted it on my blog... take a gander at my self - striping goodness! Oh and at my Mondayness over here:

Shudder. Socks. More than two needles. Extra shudder, brave girl!!! Not shuddering at cup cakes, though. And good on the Irish for winning - must be all that fab Kiwi influence... Well, so my Kiwi hubby intones!!!!

there are lots of sock knitters out there and they always look so good. Was thinking about you on Saturday..while we were commiserating x x

Self striping wool is like magic! I just can't work it out. You are a brave lady embarking on socks! I hear there is such a thing as the second sock block. A lot of folks knit one sock and then struggle to do the second apparently! I'm sure it won't happen to you. It would never do to have one cold foot!

Like Louise I thought of you on Saturday as we commiserated!

Self-patterning wool? What's not to love!
I'm just about to send chocolate off to Texas and New York City. And not to mention Easter goody bags for The Boy Child's class ...

Ooooh - imagine if they did a self patterning tartan! Ooooh!

Love that photo :D

Haven't knitted for years but always found it very therapeutic! Especially loved using random wool to see how it came out! We are working through the Mart Berry Baking book and trying something new each week. The ginger cake was particularly good but those mug cakes look fab!

A bit of knitting sounds just the thing for Spring. My Mum was also intrigued by the self-striping wool and her grandchildren have a jumper each to show for it. Socks? You have my admiration. I looked once at a circular needle, and tried knitting on four needles and got totally confused. I am absolutely sure you won't!

A friend knitted me a pair of sandal socks to wear with my flip flops to the pool in the winter and I have loved them.

Loving that self-patterning yarn - the jacket I'm working on uses it. Good luck with the socks - I kept losing interest in them but I haven't totally given up. Maybe I'll pick them back up this summer if I'm feeling ok.
