Me On Monday

Monday...and you've caught me in the act

Too early in the day for another piece? Mmm..maybe not by the time you are reading this.

It was a concert going, Little E cuddling, fudge making weekend.

The fudge making sees the beginning of our fundraising for The (Not So) Small One's trip to Romania. When we're trying to get a few hands in pockets we always start with fudge! It's a secret family recipe; and, honestly, although it's known as "fudge" in the family, it's actually what the Scots call "tablet". Which, as anyone who has ever tried it will tell you, is fudge's more delicious cousin. It's hard, but crumbly, you can bite it, but it melts in the mouth, and it's one of my most favourite foods on the planet. They really shouldn't have left me alone with the rejects. Clearly they need all the love I can give them. The rest has been packaged up, arranged on a tray and taken into work to be sold. We're hoping to do a few more pop-up fudge sales before Christmas. Wish us luck!

We also fitted in a visit from that ruffian nephew of ours, Little E, and a trip to see Elvis Costello in concert.

When Little E arrived, he had one pressing question: does going to a concert, he wanted to know, leave you with hot ears? Then he gave me a present of the nicest enamel mug I've seen in a long time. Funny, every week when I come to "doing Monday" I look for a theme, or something which will connect each photo to the next. I don't suppose Little E, when he chose that mug, realised how nicely it would sit beside Elvis. That was a lucky break.

So, onwards to the rest of the week, then. Fuelled by fudge. Give me a wave if you are "Monday-ing" too. Last week we got a peep into the Monday worlds of Helena, Fiona, Deb, Doris, Ruth, Becky, Karen, Alison and Ladkyis. Very enjoyable!

Oh the fudge looks scumptious! It is never too early to nibble on tasty fudge (in my opinion) and I love the mug. Hope you enjoyed the concert too.

Rejects? They look pretty good to me, delicious in fact. I now see why you referred to my notelet set as a good fundraiser! I agree. Loving the folksy mug. Gift giving is clearly a talent in your family. I'll be waving back later.

Hard, but crumbly, is definately the best type of fudge. That looks like a very high number of 'rejects'....wonder how that happened!!

Oh, tablet, yum ... MUCH nicer than gooey fudge. Though I think those left-overs could be packaged up and re-sold as 'misfits', or 'wonkies' :). Now there's a good name for a new sweetmeat! What a nice weekend - family AND out-and-about!

Your fudge looks delish! I love sweets for breakfast. I can see myself enjoying tea in that new mug with a side of fudge!

I love making fudge for the family but try not to eat too much myself!

It's the rejects that taste the best, I wouldn't be able to resist either. Little E has a good taste in mugs, that's so pretty.

I have to agree with everything Debs14 has said before me!

Mmmmm tablet - how wonderful. I use to work with a Scottish girl and she always made this for leaving do's and work parties - it is so lovely. Elvis Costello sounds fab. Looks like you had a good weekend.

Have just given you a wave back!

I love tablet and am particularly keen on the tablet ice-cream Sundaes I have sampled in Glasgow. Good luck

Mm tablet never has any rejects :-) I got some today when I was out. Love the mug.

mmmh, offcuts always taste nicer. My mum used to say that broken biscuits lost their calories! Maybe the same is true of offcuts of tablet!
Out of interest, how secret is the secret recipe?!

Sounds like a fun weekend, especially with going to a concert! "Hot ears", makes me chuckle. He is always so full of questions. That fudge looks yummy. My father always made his fudge like that. I have always liked it that way the best. His mother was from England and father from Whales so somewhere down the line someone liked the Scottish way best. haha

Thorntons do a butter tablet fudge but I bet it doesn't tastes anywhere near homemade

Little E comes up with the best phrases! I hope his mom is keeping an account of them! I wonder if there's an equivalent to "tablet" here. It looks delicious!

Ha , you have beaten us to it! I have suggested fudge making to my youngest to start her off on fundraising for her trip to Tanzania. I suppose if it is a secret family recipie you not likely to reveal it to us......
I have never been a great one for rock and pop concerts but I do remember going to see Elvis Costello when I was in the sixth form. how long ago?

Got so intrigued by the name 'Doris' that I linked across before I left a message, LOL!! Anyways, enjoy that fudge. We're in diet mode here, to stop it being EVER an insulin-injecting type of weekend....wish us luck! That mug is GORGEOUS!!!!!

I love that mug from little E and would grab a piece of that fudge if it was in my kitchen too! I was nibbling on banana bread today :)

That fudge looks delicious - we're in the same fundraising situation - it's hard isn't it!? Good luck!

Oh that looks yummy, I will have to search to see what it tastes like - toffee? If so, it would go nicely with your mug full of coffee? Good luck fending off multiple temptations while you are raising funds for her trip.

OH, I'd like a piece, please! :) Sounds like it was a nice weekend.

Love the mug - you're all set for some seriously stylish camping with that!

This is by-the-by but lately I keep wondering how long it'll be before Little E declares Christmas open ...

I love proper fudge that melts in your mouth :) I collect mugs and that one from Little E is a stunner!

Reading backwards Sian, catching up, and discovered the fudge was for fundraising not for your Mum! Well she may enjoy it anyway. Hope so.
Hope you enjoyed the concert too.

That fudge looks wonderful! Oh no, another thing that I can't eat anymore. Somehow lactose free dairy just doesn't cut it with fudge etc.
