Pre Scrapbook Storytelling

It's very nearly a month since we got back from holiday. Already! I've been editing my photos, sorting them into stories. A few have been set aside for layouts, a clutch of favourites have been blogged. And now I have my eye on the pictures belonging to another..

..for The (Not So) Small One has what I think is a truly inspiring collection of phone photos: vibrant, immediate, in the moment, her own personal holiday stories. She'll tell them in her own way, and that's good. Her way isn't my way, but it works. She has been instagramming a little; and of course she has a big facebook album full of Florida. That's scrapbooking in its own way, isn't it? Is it?

It's certainly storytelling. And now that I think about it, I can see that most of my personal storytelling begins before I scrapbook too

Simply, I think I tell the story better when the layout isn't even a blank piece of cardstock calling for a title. My story comes with a fresh page in a notebook, a nicely sharpened pencil, a tease of an idea for a blog post which only settles as a story when I begin to scrawl. The layout most often comes much, much later.

Over the three rewardingly wonderful years of Storytelling Sunday I wrote many stories I still need to scrapbook. Or do I? Does it matter? The (Not So) Small One has her instagram, I have my blog. We're marking the bits we want to remember, we're telling the story the way it speaks to us.

Get It Scrapped asked for a page with a photo whose story had already been told. Of course one of those Storytelling Sunday posts was going to fit. This one comes from August a year ago: the tale of a piece of cardboard and how it has stayed on my shelf for - now- over twenty five years.

Pre scrapbook storytelling, scrapbooking, storytelling any way you like it, any order, any day. That's what I like. You can find more ideas for different ways to find your way into the story at Use Apps And Social Media For Pre Scrapbook Storytelling from Get It Scrapped

Your page is wonderful! Yes, it all counts - blogging, instagram-ing, collecting photos together & adding bits of information - it's all scrapbooking & it seems the not so small one is finding her way. I've been processing photos from our trips, too, making a list of stories to tell, putting them together with bits of memorabilia. FUN

I love it when you can turn a blog post into a scrapbooking page, yours is a fabulous example!
And how about a nice little photo book with your daughter's Instagram/vacation photos? It might be fun to have a trace other than on her phone... ;)

It's fascinating how we all do it in different ways....although I sometimes have a story in mind....the photos and layout nearly always comes first for me.

Any way you want to do it, no matter what form that takes. It's all good.

It all counts and it is all good! And I love using my blog for scrapbooking fodder as sometimes it is nice to get the story in tangible (as opposed to electronic) format so it can be shared with family who don't read my blog.

Yes, modern day social media is a scrapbook, just sometimes not as well thought out! It all goes together so well. When I watch Who Do You Think You Are? and I see the celebs extrapolating (most extraordinarily sometimes!!!) I wonder how that show will fit in 100 years time as we will be able to tell what Great Granny Jen made for lunch, how she got to work and what she thought about her son's school report. It is however a bit hodge podge, not linear and I bet there is still plenty that could be read between the lines :-)

Great post, great layout, thank you.

For some reason I have tears in my eyes as I read your page, no, it matters not which way you do it, in a few years it will all mean so very much more. I struggle over paper pages, blog posts, or digital pages. I love it when you write a post like this. It kind of all makes sense to me when I've read your thoughts on the subject.

You are so right! There are many ways to tell the story. The most important thing is to just tell it!! I've always said that my blog was just another scrapbook filled with the everyday!

Haven't been by for sometime and it looks like I've been missing out. Great post. Yes, it all counts. A story told is always a little memory captured, no matter how it's told. Saying that, this particular scrapbook page is just wonderful.

Loooove, love, looooove your page....all that typing on the side. Or maybe it's the photo on the side? Anyways, it's YUM....the colours of that pp...the blues, the doily, the bag behind the pic. The pic!!! Anyways, love it all. And yup! I think your girl has embraced the story telling of the 21st century!

A post by Melissa caused me to go back through some of my earliest blog posts recently---ten years ago now. It was fascinating reading to me, but of course, I'm the one who lived those stories. I'm trying to figure out now how to get them off the blog and into some kind of print medium.

I am always fascinated to read how pages and posts come about ... It's going to be interesting to see how the Not Do Small One's generation is going to use all the techno wizardry we fever had.

I'm always saying to Simon, that I'm in awe how things are changing. I remember when I started blogging, thinking how it was such a change from my diary writing days. But now with FB and Instagram, it's just another way to share our hobbies

What a wonderful looking page. You're so right - there are so many ways of telling a story. I love using my blog sometimes to jog my memory of things and then make a book on my blog entries from each year. I just wish I had got into story telling when I was much, much younger. :)

I'm sure Blogger is eating my comments! Anyways, just here to say that I do love your way of storytelling. :)

I came to your blog too late for storytelling sunday so it is nice to catch up with an old story now retold on a layout. Fabulous memories and a lovely way to preserve the story x

Lovely, I missed that story so it was good to read it! Sometimes the silly things are the most precious. Who needs gems and gold? Well, I need the small scrapbooking gems and gold embossing powder, but I can live without the real ones! The 'confetti' of stars and flowers on your page are perfect! x
