Scrapbooking With Badges

Today's page is unashamedly, unapologetically nostalgic. Three 1970's kids, snapped by their Dad, on a day when the sun shone warm and the beach stretched out before them.

I pulled the photo out of my pile of old pictures when Get It Scrapped asked for a page using badges

Badges? It had to be the 70's! When all my friends seemed to be collecting those little woven souvenirs, bringing them back from holiday, saving up for the new styles from the one haberdashers in town. I had a dream of a denim hat, covered in patches I'd sewn on myself; and though I never achieved that, I smile when I look back and realise my crafty plans, of a day, haven't changed too much at all...

....since the times when:

- the biggest decision on a sunny day was between getting out in the fresh air, taking a wander, gathering up treasures, chatting, and storing it all up in my memory - or staying indoors and making something.

- the biggest dilemma was whether to cut the paper dolls out of my Bunty comic and enjoy them - or save my magazine and keep it intact.

- the biggest deal breaker was the choice of glue for my kitchen roll and cereal packet construction

and

- the biggest no brainer was MAKING a Fathers Day card instead of buying one.

Everything changes, nothing changes. All those dads still deserve cards and a good day tomorrow...

...and this post, which was supposed to be about scrapbooking with badges, has turned into something else entirely. So I'll direct you to Get It Scrapped's Ideas For Scrapbook Page Storytelling With Badges and wish you a great weekend!

aahh the 70s and making things from cereal packets and collecting badges to sew onto my flared brush denim jeans

What struck me immediately is the beautiful composition of that shot. It's a far cry from our 70s family snapshots! I was a fiendish badge collector, but the metal sort, rather than the woven badges, they were more a Brownies thing.

Lovely warm post, I feel all warm and fuzzy and you should definitely plug this gap in the scrapbooking market. I would pay good money for those nowadays! I don't remember those but I remember being scooted out of the door and told not to come back until dinner (or dark even)!

Oh yes....I remember the badges....I was going to sew mine onto a cushion....that never happened either.

Composition of shot and mirroring in the layout are very well done! All our family shots have someone's head missing ..... mum always chopped off heads, accidentally of course!

Ahhh yes, to a simpler time! I reminiscing with the family right now. Our biggest decision was whether to ride bikes or play in the woods. Slow summer days allowed for doing it all---as long as we were home for dinner too!

I LOVE that film.

See what you did to me?

What a lovely photo Sian and thank you for the reminder about badges - they had slipped my memory. They were always good to buy on a day out or holiday, I love how yours adds so much to the page.

Oh Sian, I just love this layout, and yes oh how I remember those badges :)

Love this so much - I shall pin it for inspiration when I'm working on my childhood memories album. and yes I had one of those hats - but mine had more button badges than fabric. My fabric badges went on my camp blanket, which I still have and DD used when she went on Brownie pack holiday.

First off, I just LOVE that badge, and then the photo and the story and the layout. . .

I don't think we had "badges" in the way that you describe them, but I definitely have similar memories. I love the map paper along the bottom of the layout.

Love it! My badges were of the metal variety and... funnily enough I am just now getting into the fabric ones!

Fabulous page.

I love this! The design, the colors, and the priceless photo! I don't think I have ever used a badge on a page!

I love the whole retro feel of this page and the clever use of the badge in the title. Funny to think we were having the same sort of experiences not that many years or miles apart.

Lovely layout! I don't remember ever collecting badges other than a few I earned at our church girls' group (similar to Girl Scouts).

No badges here other than the Brownies and Guide ones (some of which I still have I think) but I sure do remember the "Come back when dinner's ready". It seemed we'd be gone for hours playing outside.

Goodness I remember those badges being everywhere! I'd like to say happy days but not really. I do remember with happiness the feeling of being gone for hours until dinner was ready...
