Rocking My World Friday

It's Friday! That has to be a good thing. A couple of weeks ago I joined in with Rocking My World Friday over at Celtic House. The welcome was so warm I just knew I had to go back! So I've been making sure I take note of the little things making my world just that tiny bit better all week, and this is what I have found

  • A new photo of Little E on the beach, wearing the monkey hat I made for him. His very kind Mum says that the tassels aren't really coming undone, even though it looks like they are in the picture. But I believe a bit of remedial re-tasselling might be required

Actually, it's been a great Little E week, with a trip to the pizzeria on Saturday night and a visit to the museum on Sunday. He asks such good questions. "Auntie Sian....what happened to the Egyptian mummy's eyeballs?"

  •  Crochet. Oh, how I am learning to love you! I have about six inches of blanket completed and it's so easy to keep going, adding in colour after colour in front of the TV in the evenings. I eventually decided on the new raindrop stitch I found over at Attic24 and, with thanks to Alana for sending me a discount code for Wool Warehouse, I have a madly bright peachy pink, blue, grey and gold combo going on.
  • It's warm enough to hang the washing outside! It's the little things...
  • When one thing leads to another. I just got a box of layouts back from Scrap365. This month, I have a page published using a photo of my quilt blocks:

If I hadn't joined in with Fiona's Friendship Quilt, I wouldn't have tried to make some blocks, and I wouldn't have taken this picture, and I wouldn't have been able to use it for a layout. And the quilt is a year long project: who knows what will come out of it next?
  • The car needs a lot of work BUT the garage is miles out in the country, in a really beautiful spot. So The Accountant and I took an unexpected drive in the countryside the other afternoon. Better than work. And we'll have to go back and fetch it.
  • A son who took the time to write a thank you postcard to his Granny. Pleased his Granny, pleased me - thanks, you big, beardy student!
  • A daughter with an exam this morning. She said she felt sick, but she gathered up her courage and went. I have so much admiration for the teenagers today who wade through so many assessments and practicals and more homework than I ever had to cope with. They have to learn to deal with stress too early, I think
So fingers crossed for her and maybe some good results will be Rocking my World some Friday in the future!

Have a good weekend, and think about it - maybe something nice you do could be Rocking Your Friday this time next week?

I'm tempted by that raindrop pattern too - can we have a peek at your progress? Lovely shot of little E

I've always loved that photo Sian! Hope her exam went well and how lovely that TTO sent a card. I agree with Helena though, i would love to have a peek at your crochet. I would love to learn but feel I lack the patience!

What a great hat and interesting photo of the blocks. I like the idea of thinking of things that make life easier - always a good thing :)

Very sweet picture. Hope your daughter's exam went well - I don't envy her! We had a fun Friday at Leeds Museum.

I'm going to crochet a bit more so you can see several stripes of each colour and then we need to get TSO's bedroom all sorted out so I can take a picture of it where it's meant to be

Oh yes x Crochet gets addictive but then again so does sewing & scrapping!!

Glad I could help with the discount:) At the British Museum this week (yr 4 topic is ancient Egyptions) we learnt that the eyes and mouth are opened before mummification so that the dead can see and hear in the after life. The soft bits like the intestines but not the heart was placed in a Canopic jar. .....you can make one out of a small water bottle and Modroc (or papier-mâché mâché) ......any more questions just ask:) tell Little E that I saw a real mummies that had been scanned so you could see the bones inside.

gotta love little E's questions. I loved the questions mine asked at that age. Good for you on the crochet. Beards are in fashion...so i'm told. I'm with you on the school stuff...far far too much pressure. We have had mocks here and a bedroom wall full of mind maps x I hope she done well x

I love the fabrics on your quilt blocks there! Very jolly little houses. I like Little E's questions - he sounds like my big boy at that age and he is now on the G&T register for Science so it obviously did him good!

I don't crochet, as you know, but I do like Lucy's blog at Attic24 ~ it's always bursting with colour.
I love the thinking that goes on in Little E's brain ~ where do their eyeballs go, Auntie Sian??
Oh, and well done on raising such a fine young man (and I'm sure TNSSO will follow in his big footsteps when she is away from home).

I'm planning on making a cushion using that new stitch!

When it's coming up to exams, our school has a list of girls who need a bit of TLC and that list is the longest I've seen it this year! Hope your girly does well.
I'm pretty sure Little E wouldn't be the kind of boy to fiddle around with those tassels until they started fraying ;-)
So tell us, Auntie Sian, what DOES happen to mummy's eyeballs? Clearly a question that needs answering!

Love the splashes in Little E's photo. I wish I could get my daughter to write thank-you cards. Mind you, maybe I should set a better example and get that one finished for Mel!

What a lovely look at your week! There so many good things to rock our world if we just take time to notice them.

You have found a lot of nice little things this week. Glad to hear you are liking crocheting. I find it easier to watch tv than knitting. Love all things needle arts anyway! I hope you have another great week. Oh, and the thank you from the bearded one is priceless. Nice to know you raised him right!

Oh I hope the exam went well. We have a daughter going through those at the mo and she's stressing herself out about changes ahead and growing up. She doesn't deal well with change. And growing up. (Do any of us?)

The beardy student made me laugh :D

Love little E's hat - he carries it off with flair!

Love seeing your Rocking Fridays Sian :) Big cheesy grin this end.

That's a great photo of Little (or Not So Little) E - he seems to be growing apace! Lovely to read of the things to celebrate, and there's a nicely brought up son for you, as well as a brave daughter :).

These are great things to rock your Friday! The fact that the weather is good enough to hang the washing out has been making me smile lots too. I love the monkey hat on E, even if the tassels are coming undone. And well done for seeing the silver lining when your car needed lots of work! x

Hmmm, I'll have to look into this raindrop pattern. It's nice to see the finished monkey hat.

A fun post, Sian. Isn't crocheting just the best? SO addictive I have a hard time putting it down once I get going. It's always, "one more row..." LOVE the photo of Little E splashing in the water, and also of your pretty quilt blocks.

I do like this blog même and will be looking into it ;) It was lovely to read about what makes you happy these days... Any time Little E is included, I know I will smile somewhere during my reading :)
