And In the Box...

A couple of weeks ago I got a big parcel in the post: a boxful of layouts which had been published in Scrap365 magazine. We work months in advance, so it had been a while since I'd seen some of these, and it felt like a reunion with old friends...

The pie chart page, from the November 2012 issue, was for an "And Finally" feature: something a bit different to finish up your reading at the back of the magazine. It's definitely worth thinking about if you have a list to scrapbook.

Or, if you have something a bit more private in mind, how about some hidden journaling? In the same issue I did a piece on that very subject:

There is journaling under each of the cards: it's surprisingly freeing to start out knowing that you can keep the words out of sight. Again, worth a try.

Now, don't laugh - this next very simple page has turned into one of my favourites. The journaling is hidden underneath the patterned paper which drops down out of the way. It's about a university experience, so I cut some shapes I hoped look like dreaming spires and lots of blue, which always says "hard work" to me. I'd like to try the same design again with a different mood and new colours, just to see how it looked. There are other possibilities: leaving the words on show over or instead of the patterned paper; or using a photo instead of the shapes. I can see it miniaturised as a card too, maybe?

and, finally, a lighter, brighter look with banners; for a page about a cheerful Monday morning, inspired by an article I did on using songs as inspiration.

A delivery of new supplies might just be as good as a Monday gets. Thank goodness it's Wednesday. Have a good one!

My daughter got so upset when I had to post my LO to Scrap365. She was convinced it would get lost in the post!
Your pages have such a light touch to them.

What a delight for you to receive your layouts back from so long ago. I bet you relived the memories of the pages all over again. I really like the pie chart one where you break down all your activities.

love the yellow/orange theme you've got going - not colors I normally use but it's so bright/cheery!

I love these. and i wanted to say how much I enjoy Scrap 365 now - the things that niggled me in the first few issues have all been ironed out and I really look forward to getting my mag each month

Its funny because blue doesn't associate with work it my mind - I find it a calming colour. Perhaps it was the colour of your school uniform? Mine was bottle green and this is definitely a work colour for me...

I love the idea of using shapes as an alternative to photos - great layouts Sian, especially the colour in the first one.

Glad they are back safe and sound ... I hate the idea of precious and lovely pages getting lost in the post!

Oh yes, a lovely thing to happen. They all look beautiful and so nice to see them all together, that has given me a prompt for a post if you don't mind.

As I typed that I was really thinking about your blogging (gawd, is that an ugly description for a writing page, who came up with that?). Anyway, I got to thinking about how there are blogs (writing posts) I love, blogs (writing posts) I admire and blogs (writing posts) that add value. I think your blog hits all three and that is not easy.

Keep on please :D

What a good surprise and a bonus for those of us who never got to see them in the mag! :) The first one is my fave!

What a great surprise. I don't get that magazine over here so it's really great seeing you post them. I really like that first one and just might have to scraplift the idea.

That top page made me smile - there are bits of a pie chart cut out on my trolley. I'd just been wondering at lunch, if I packed them up to take with me or finished it here.

I've got a red headed typist from that paper set tucked away for a page.

Hidden journaling is a good thing definitely freeing. Fun to see these old friends come back :)

Pie charts couldn't be more trendy right now, but yours is the very best I've seen!
