It's Great in Ghent

Mmm, I thought. What's the story for today? Our last holiday stop is in Belgium; and I have photos but no special story. It was simply a lovely day out. We had browsed through the brochure of trips and found a few things one of us liked, but nothing we were all crazy about doing; so we settled on a simple trip down the river in Ghent.

It started like this

with a surprise peep from the river bank. The boats weren't what we had been imagining at all - I thought we'd be chugging along on a big river boat, but they looked like much more fun than that

So we all hopped aboard

for a peaceful, up close and personal tour of the waterways in Ghent.

We saw new things

and old things

and then we pulled up at the shore

and headed off for a look round the shops

And that's my story for today. Oh, talking of which - don't forget it's Storytelling Sunday next week. We have an August Wedding Anniversary, so my story might be slightly connected to that. With a suggested theme, then, of Summer Lovin' - but, of course, any story you care to tell will be very welcome. See you there!

Can I just say thank you, one of the 'posts you might like' underneath was a link to a post on blogging from March 2010, has led me on a merry dance this morning round to new blogs to me and ideas to update my blog.

That looks like a wonderful way to see something a little bit different. I must admit I had never heard of Ghent but it does look beautiful.

I was expecting beer and chocolates, so, it is nice to see architecture as an alternative!

More lovely photos, and since I've never been to Belgium I was particularly interested in what you saw!

I love the statues off the sides of buildings. Been working on a couple of story ideas for Sunday; none are summer lovin' ones, but I might be able to go there. . .

It is a pretty place isn't it Sian? My FIL ran an Irish pub there for a while so we got to visit too (feel like I am stalking you all over Europe, LOL!).

That looks like a very pretty place. I still haven't decided on a story for Sunday, but as it is winter here maybe a summer story would be nice.

Looking forward to Sunday!!!!!

Ghent looks lovely, it's on my wish list to visit as we love Brugge so I'm sure this is a great city too. I also noticed an advert in Scrap 365 advertising that they are having a Scrapbooking event there in October...

Great looking pictures Sian. Reminds me of our canal tour in Copenhagen. Still trying to think of something for Sunday.
