The Best Bit was the Bacon

I did it. They said I'd never manage it; but I did. I got up at 6.00am to watch Ireland play wales in the Rugby World Cup. And we lost.

With grateful thanks to Karen of Random Reflections for the Slice card which cut the (un) lucky clover leaf

Halfway through I thought about switching sides. What with being half Welsh and all; but my heart wasn't in it. I'll save that for the next round.

I thought about when we were little and my Welsh dad would offer a prize to the child who brought him the best red thing-to-wear-while-watching-Wales. Once, he ended up with a biscuit tin upended on his head and a dolls scarf safety pinned to his sweater, for the entire match. While we worked out how many white chocolate mice we could buy with the extra pocket money. We got a bonus if Wales won.

Maybe I'll try that myself next week. One thing's for sure, though. We'll be having bacon sandwiches again. You've got to take your fun where you can, on rugby weekends.

what a great LO Sian! Such a shame about your team though :(

I feel your pain Sian! Our house has been taken over by the rugby this weekend and bacon rolls for breakfast here too.

too cute. love the story about your dad!

I haven't really been following it as much as I should as Rugby isn't played or popular here but I'm sure I could track it down somewhere on TV if I tried. After all, it's the only sport I could happily sit and watch a whole game of. Of course, England is also out and I'm not half anything so who to support?

Love your layout - so much fun!

It's been a real shame but at least Ireland kept fighting.
Great story x

There was a very subdued air in our house yesterday, England did not redeem themselves against the French. Sacre Bleu!

Never mind .... are we still in it? I haven't heard the results and, truth be known, I'm not a rugby fan ... sshhhhhh ;-)

I'm afraid the bacon sandwich would always be the best bit of a rugby match for me!!!

I might be tempted to watch a rugby match for the sarnie.

Oh your Dad sounds like a huge bundle of fun :D

Not sure even a bacon sandwich would have got me out of bed for a rugby match. LOL at your Dad with a biscuit tin on his head! Sorry Ireland didn't make it but with your welsh blood as well at least you have further options!

Love the idea of your dad in a biscuit tin! Not a rugby fan myself as I simply cannot understand the rules - DH loves it though!

I love the image of your dad covered with red stuff. :o) I've never seen a rugby game, but I can relate to the feeling thinking of my favorite football and baseball teams.

You wouldn't get me up that early, not even for a bacon sandwich... I did have a very fine bacon baguette for my lunch though, coincidentally :)

Sorry about the rugby pain. I'm a Hereford Untied fan so I experience football pain on a regular basis :(

Ah, well... never mind - at least the bacon sarnie was a winner - and so is that layout!

This really made me laugh! Think we might pinch that idea. Shame only one British team is through but here's to Wales from now on!

My dad got up to watch it, only to discover that our satellite system was playing up again...he neither saw it OR got the bacon sarnie! Love the thought of YOUR dad with the biscuit tin on his head

Aaaah... and England lost to France the other day too...
At least you have some hope left... you can uphold the family honour, by returning to the other half of your roots!

Glad you enjoyed the bacon sandwich - love the page about the match; as usual, you came up with a Brilliant Title - both for the page and the blog post!

Great post, Sian!

Such a fun layout and a great memory even though your team lost.

LOL Sian, I just can't stop giggling at the sight of your Dad with a biscuit tin on his head. You have really cheered me up this morning! We only did that sort of thing when England played in the World Cup (footie though). Sorry your team lost; but at least you can cheer Wales on in the next round. All my son wants to eat at the moment is bacon, and who can cook bacon without eating some too, yum!

Thanks so much for posting the bags; I have a great idea what to use them for! x

Love this post and the layout Sian, your Dad's antics sound brilliant but the thought of those white mice now - the texture of the chocolate was always a little odd somehow lol

I laughed out loud when I read this post. Seems like we're all Welsh next weekend ...
Was any of the black stuff drunk at breakfast? I'm just asking ...

For good friends of mine its American football and chicken wings. I watched the Philadelphia Eagles get trounced yesterday. :(

Brilliant story, fantastic LO - know the feeling, but not on Saturday as we're Welsh! Probably be scraplifting your LO next Saturday!!, with leeks on instead :)

commisserations - I watched the end in the airport bar with a lot of frustrated irish. At least england lost (as a Scot I support anyone playing england !)

I'll be cheering Wales next weekend. A Wales, NZ final would be spectacular

I can't say I would get up that early for sports, perhaps for the Tour I would, but the smell of bacon... hmmmmm that would certainly get my foot twitching :)

I'd love to stop by for a bacon sandwich - yum! I really like all the different letters you used for the title in this layout.

LOL, I guess you are not a keen supporter ? But the LO is gorgeous, so something good came out of it at least.

I hear you. It's football season here in the U.S. For me that usually means some time in the kitchen, hopefully experimenting with a new recipe or, if I'm a bit lazy, relying on an old favorite. Good times either way!

We had bacon sandwiches this Sunday after a fry up on Saturday to ds's delight. No rugby fans here - although I did commiserate with a friend via fb ;)
