Pass the Book: The Ninth

It's time for Pass The Book again. Again! Where did April go? This month there was only one kind of book I was looking for. It had to be..

a book of card making sketches. Maybe you are already a diehard card maker with a blog list of sketch and challenge sites (anything you'd recommend?). Maybe, like me, you are only venturing into cardmaking after years of scrapbooking. I think this would suit anyone. In fact,  I bet you'll find half a dozen sketches to put in your notebook before you pass it on. The usual rules apply and newcomers are welcome. Simply leave a comment if you'd like a chance to read Cardmakers sketchbook . I'll draw a name in a week's time and you will find more information here

It has certainly given me a few more ideas for my Captured in a Card series. You've been asking me questions about the cards - here's what I think:

  • Would I show the inside of a card?  So far the insides are completely plain and simply include my handwritten message with no journaling stamp or added decoration. But I'd love to learn how to improve my handwriting and this might be the push I need.
  • Would it work with famous quotes I love?  Definitely! The other night I heard Richard Branson on TV saying "You don't make anything if you don't make mistakes." I thought that was worth writing down and remembering, so it might end up in a card.
  • What's the story behind the "chicken" quote in your second card?  Truthfully, there isn't one. The Small One made a passing, random remark which I thought was funny enough to write down. That's the thing with the cards - you don't have room for lots of text, so you can make the most of a quick story or saying.
  • How are you storing them?  At the minute in a divided page protector at the front of my latest album. Paperchase has great photo albums for a collection (Lizzie suggested making gift albums). Clair suggested library drawers like the 7Gypsies ones (love this idea) and I have a little plastic Photobox mailer which might work too. Or what about an index card holder?
  • Finally, have a look at how Rinda has made the plan work for her. Her heritage stories are wonderful.
So, there you go. Leave a comment for the card sketch book, have a think about making a card or two and I'll have another Captured in a Card ready for next week.

It is funny that this post of yours comes up today when Rinda posted about card design today too - and funnily enough we share the same design, almost exactly, as our go to for photo cards! And from that comment it is safe to assume that I could certainly do with some card inspiration - it is sorely lacking :-)

I have a couple of cards to make and am totally lacking inspiration at the moment. I was a cardmaker before starting scrapbooking - now I only make cards for my closest family and friends. My mum is a cardmaker and has even started this years Christmas cards!

I got to scrapping via card making but would be the same as Lynn...can't seem to get beyond family at the moment. One site I would recommend looking at, if u have not already found it, is Docrafts (www.docrafts.co.uk). The gallery is really good and they also have a weekly challenge.

I am not a card maker, but recently decided to venture down this side alley and bought a few stamps (which I've said for years I would NEVER do!). Now I'd love to know what to do with them, so please put me in for the book! :)

When I make cards I tend to view them as minature layouts as I like working with square cards of various sizes. I would love a bit of inspiration from the book though.

I am making all my cards this year, so this would be perfect. However, since I've just received Where Women Create, I won't put my name in the draw. (I'll watch to see where it goes so I can catch it later though!)

I just got back from teaching my papercrafts class - and one of our topics for today was using sketches for cards!! We made a little notebook and started to fill it with sketches, as well as making a card based on a particular sketch (with a handmade embellishment using a bottle cap, because I like to pack as much into my classes as possible...)

It's re-enthused me to use sketches, so I'd love to see this book at some point on its travels :)

I am surely the world's worst card maker, so this book must be the one for me ...

I'm th opposite to you Sian. I made cards then realising that my cards where using the same design principles to scrapbooking, tried my hand at scrapbooking. Top tip for inproving handwriting....become a teacher or a TA in primary school. Since I have worked in school my handwriting has completely changed as we must teach handwriting in a certain way.

As you know,Sian....I love using sketches as a starting point....though I usually veer off them as I create the card....but would love to see some new ones....sounds like a great book.

If I were lucky enough to adopt this book, I would promise to make at least one card every month and picture it on my blog.
I'd even do one for Horsey ;-)

I had used Scrapbooking sketches and thought they were very useful for kick-starting a sluggish "inspiration system"; hadn't even thought of Card sketches, until I stumbled on Julie's blog (link on my blog), about using "Card Positioning Systems" sketches to make quick and attractive cards. Wonderful! I have tried sketches a few times now - they are so useful when you're in a bit of a hurry.
I'd love to have a go with this book, at some point, so please enter me in the draw too!

I love sketches!i often draw sketches into a noebook to try and inspire me into making a card or a LO. The baby card I made a couple of weeks ago was from a sketch. A brilliant site that lists loads of card making challenges is http://felineplayful.blogspot.com/
check it out! Yes please do enter me in this pass the book xxx

I make lots of cards but definitely am in need of new ideas. Check out my friend, Gloria's blog www.scrapsoflife.blogspot.com

Although I wanted to learn scrap booking some friends convinced me to join Stampin Up ( at home card making company), now I have converted them to scrap booking! I still make cards, I have a few "Cards" magazines which I find inspirational and if I want to make a quick card I go to Mary Fish's blog called Stampin Pretty. She has something called Mojo Monday, which is a card sketch. Another place I used to go to is Splitcoast Stampers where there are lots of card making inspiration. (sorry, I would include the links but my IPad WON'T let me!) I could still find inspiration in your pass the book so please count me in:)

I desperately need something to inspire me as I've not scrapped in an age, perhaps starting with a card would work. Please count me in on the draw :-)

I never make cards, because I think mine are so amateurish! So some inspiration would be more than welcome! Please count me in ...

Cards = scary stuff!! (For me anyway) Maybe this book would be the perfect inspiration.

I think more reading of your blog is needing to find out about your new series :) I struggle with cards, although I do enjoy making them, but I certainly need more practice. Get on with it, I hear you shout then LOL
