Five Things Five Years From Now

Five things you know won't be around in five year's time, Amy said. Photograph them, blog them. whatever.

Mmm. For a whole pile of tricky reasons I'd need a day to explain, thinking about things not being around (especially at this time of year) would make me melancholy. Too melancholy.

I had to find another way. Fast. So, I offer The Accountant you five things I hope I still won't be looking at if he knows what's good for him five years from now:

The glass splashback in our kitchen. I don't like it, but it was a gift from the kitchen design company after things didn't go very smoothly with the fit so we kept it. I want to replace it with creamy brick shaped tiles. Soon.

An entire bed full of rocket? Please, I'm begging, grow something else. Anything else.

NOT AS DANGEROUS AS IT LOOKS. It's not connected to anything, it's not live. It's just a cable with no place to go, left by the builders. Usually hidden by garden seats, but it still has to go

I know. These are getting uglier. I don't want bins on view, sitting on mud. I want a proper fenced in bin store. Without the mud. Very soon.

I made a start on this one myself. I finally replaced our old bath mat. You don't want to know what the old one looked like.

So, that's my list. With a bit of luck it won't take us the full five years to finish up. And when we do you'll be the first to know.

Good way to turn the challenge around Sian! I could find a whole host of things along this line of thinking in our house too, though a lot of them I'd want gone in five months, not five years!

I like rocket, but a whole bed of it seems crazy! Hope you manage to get some of things changed sooner rather than later. x

Great take on a quite difficult subject has got me thinking - glad to know I'm not the only one that has wires leading no where :0)

I think if I made a list like this it would never end. It's good to focus on the things you want to achieve, it certainly helps me get things done so I hope it works for you!

I was starting to worry how you might cope with this sort of challenge and it seems you have managed just fine! It is funny what we live with, right under our noses and take for granted, there are so many things here that could change if one were motivated!
I'm working on splashbacks at the moment too - we are having a conflict of interest over the colour of tile - this is the first such discussion throughout the whole process where the man of the house has wanted his say over anything to do with colour!

I love your take on Amy's challenge :) I'm so not showing it to The Doctor though, he's already far too enthusiastic about Project Declutter and he keeps suggesting big huge sections of the house for me to tackle next....

Love how you have taken Amy's challenge and done it your way. I am now looking at things closer to home e.g. the three acro jacks in the lounge that have been there fore the past 4 years and thinking maybe I should document the things around the house that I definately don't want around in 5 years time.

what a fun post....I love those flour and sugar bins :) cute! a glass backsplash would make me nervous, have you ever chipped it?

I'll have to think about the 5 year thing, that's a long time and not a long time when you think about it.... :)

What a great idea for a post Sian! Think I would like not to see my big bum in 5 years! lol!

Well, the "honey do" list has been posted - and I'm hoping for you that the Accountant takes a hint. Even a less than subtle one!

This is so funny, I love how you have written it. We have one of those lists too where I keep asking (I call it asking, he calls it nagging!) for certain things to be completed :)

He He - let's hope he takes the hint :)

Ha. I love this post, Sian! I haven't done a "5 list" yet for the same reason. Every time I think about "what won't be here in 5 years" I get very melancholy. I do love your list though! xo

You're not asking for the world lol!! my list would be so much longer :) What do you do with all that rocket though? Great post again Sian and you've just given me a scrapping idea xx

I feel the same as you do... five things that won't be around in five years time? Too melancholy to think about - the minute I read it, my wonderful doggie came to mind. She's 10 now... and although it's awful, I don't think she'll be here in 2016. Too depressing!!!!
LOVE your answers though - so so funny. Hope you find everything sorted and satisfactory soon :)

P.S... if this works, give a "YAY!!!!!"... haven't been able to leave comments for ages!

I have waaaaay more than five things I'd like to see gone in less than five years - nice way to approach Amy's challenge (which made me a bit weepy when I looked at Henry's high school sports jackets and realized he'll be off to university in five years).

A very clever way of tackling the challenge Sian. I found the idea a bit sad when I started thinking of what wouldn't (or might not) be around in 5 years time.

Great way of looking at the challenge Sian. Hmmm, wonder if that would work here. :) I need to get busy on my 5 (3 to go).

Ah, I recognise the thoughts behind this post, Sian! I also have a "want to change/ finish this" list, which is taking forever to get done. In his defence, Mr LizzieMade is a busy chap and usually tired at the weekend; I am not very energetic or fit, so he helps with heavy housework etc. What with that and his little bit of gardening, it's no wonder it takes time to get those jobs done. Still, I do find it hard to be patient...
I would like a glass splashback - ours is stainless steel; it's huge, ugly and a nightmare to clean! Send me yours, pleeese! And you can send the rocket over here for the guinea pigs, if you like - they love it!
Hope you're having a good weekend.

Worth a try - if I do things like that I get repaid in spades witha all the little (crafty) jobs that I've started and never finished!

What a fun post! I guess with any home there are always things that need replacing or adjustments. I am soon hoping for my teeny tiny grassy space, outside our condo, to be graded properly so my tree grows and all the neighbour's water stops flooding my cement patio! ;) Our land slopes towards the house. :( ( I guess life is good if these are our biggest complaints! hee hee)

Great post, Sian. I loved your photos and descriptions. I may just have to document my own list!

Great list ... hope The Accountant is reading! Sorry about the melancholy, though. Keeping you company.

This is such an interesting challenge. I hope it doesn't take anywhere near 5 years for the changes you'd like to see!

I love the way you ended this challenge! Taking into your own hands is often the only way to make it happen here . . . that or company coming!

Love this post Sian! so truthful and I feel exactly the same way about things too!!

I'm just catching up on the 5 things posts - LOVE your take on it! There's always something going with home improvement, right? I feel like I scratch one thing off my list and add another.

You are so clever, I couldn't move past the sadness I felt so passed. I hope all your wishes come true much sooner than the 5 years ;)

LOL, maybe you can print out this post and put it somewhere prominent.
