The February Counterfeit Kit Challenge

I had a lot of fun with the Counterfeit Kit Challenge last month, so how could I resist playing along in February too? This month's kit-to-copy comes from Scraps Of Darkness:

and as you can see, it's dark, it's gothic. it's really quite black. Now, I don't use a lot of black when I'm scrapbooking, although I have been through a black phase - and I have The Smiths CD's to prove it - so I knew I had to find another direction to take the kit in. Then I remembered the page I had torn from a magazine a while back because I loved the striking decor. It's a Swedish Country look in white and black; similar to the style of a favourite interiors blog of mine: Me And Alice.

So that's what my kit became. Scandanavian Country instead of Romantic Gothic. With black and white and gray and, for contrast, a touch of green with a little shabby chic floral thrown in too. This is a kit I know I will use.

Kit details:
  • Bazzill: black dotted Swiss, 3 white and 1 pale green
  • I sheet Studio Calico Herringbone
  • 1 sheet Jenni Bowlin "Deco Chain"
  • 1 sheet Amy Butler Lotus "Teabox"
  • 1 sheet Pink Paislee "Eclipse"
  • 1 sheet black printed alphabet paper
  • 1 sheet studio Calico bicycle paper
  • 1 sheet Amy Butler Lotus "Faded China"
  • 1 KI Memories Lace Cardstock
  • Jenni Bowlin alphabet
  • Prima Say It In Pearls, green flower and pink flowers
  • Maya Road Transparency and kraft tags
  • mirror and acrylic tag
  • Basic Gray Bling It On
  • Bella Blvd flower
  • Homemade black windmill
  • pink and black ribbon and a selection of stick pins
  • Making Memories white metal flowers
  • Not pictured - Maya Road black rubons
And here is the whole thing:

Now I'm heading off to check out the other counterfeit kits here. And then I might just have to make a page...

Psst! Don't forget, you can add your story to Storytelling Sunday any day this week. I've been blown away by all your tales - thank you!

Nice take on the kit Siân - mine is awaiting time during daylight hours for a bit of colour matching and I need a few more embellishments.

That's beutiful Sian. I think one of the biggest motivators for me to use my stash is having *purpose*. That's why I like to have an idea in my head before I go ahead and start crafting.

That kit challenge is such a good prompt / excuse to pull things together .. which is always bound to kick-start a project.

Thanks for sharing :-)

I much prefer your kit to the original and know I would pick it up in an instant if it were available. This really is such a good idea.

Great job with your kit! I love how you adapted it into something you will definitely use. I have the photo of the kit-to-copy on my craft table and am hoping to pull together a kit this week.

LOve your take on the kit. I stuggled with the colours too so I haven't got much of a kit together yet. It doesn't help that I've completely run out of flowers - will have to create my own

Your kit is awesome and even though I've just come across your blog for the first time, I think with the care you took into it, it seems to be you. I think you'll like working with it this month. You have great photography skills too. :)

I love that you gave the kit a name - very suitable and chic :-)

It goes without saying that the whole kit together is wonderful but my favourite bits are that dusky pink flower in the first photo and the Bling it On frames. Serious embellishment envy going on over in Deb's World .....!

Wow...Love the shabby look. This is the look I am wanting to domy house in but I am just not that creative about it. I would love to know where you get your inspiration for the shabby look at? Can't wait to see what you create with these beautiful papers. Now I had better get busy and get my kit together.

Delicious colourway - I am a fan of Scandanavian country! (Am I allowed to say it is nicer than the original?)

I'm a huge fan of black so my 1st kit was very dark...BUT, I think I'm gonna put another one together since you inspired me to take it up a notch in the romantic direction! SO love this one and can't wait to see your creations...
