A Puppy In My Pocket

My knitted dog book Best In Show arrived the other day and it was hard to resist:

He's a labrador (you knew that, right?); but there are plenty of others to choose from. Terriers, Gun dogs - you name it. I started with an "easy" one and it was very quick to do (he's only five inches long); although I did find a couple of slip ups in the pattern. Brackets in the wrong place, that kind of thing.

Because I had so few stitches it was easy to work out where I should be, though, and I got there in the end. Next time (Oh, Yes. The Small One wants a bulldog. She says it's "cute") I'll be using smaller needles to get a closer knit finish, so you absolutely definitely can't see any of the stuffing; and I'll be sewing it up my own way because I think I can make it neater.

Knitted with Rowan Cashsoft 4 ply
I still think he's cute, even if he is a bit of a prototype. He's the kind of dog to slip into a pocket for company when you are off to do something big and scary. Yes, that's what he is: a puppy for your pocket.

Don't forget, there is still time to put your name in the draw for Pass The Book here

SOOOOO cute!!! I have always wanted to learn how to knit but I sure don't need another hobby/medium. I'll just live vicariously through your knitting needles! xo

That looks fab Sian (sorry no proper a with a hat on on this computer) - coincidentally I saw a knitted dog on the back shelf of a car today - it was bigger I think, about a 10-12" long - a springer spaniel with brown and white spots and fluffy (wool loops) ears. Might see about a copy of the book for my Mum's Xmas gift ... any poodles or spaniels in there?

LOL - the word verification is "cardis" also knitted!

He is sooo cute. Isn't it annoying when you find a wrong bit in a pattern, you'd think they'd check them. Onto the bull dog next then:)

Annoying when patterns have mistakes isn't it? But you got there in the end and he really is cute. What's his name going to be then? The Tiny One? The Quiet One?.......The Stuffed One?

This is just the cutest little doggie I've seen, I've just made my girl block her ears so doesn't hear me singing the praises of another!
Yes, the vet bills would be far more managable with the knitted variety!

Too cute! Makes me think of all the toys my Mom crocheted for me when I was little. A turtle comes to mind first. :) TFS.

So cute! I can't wait to see the bulldog!

See I'd have been reading it and wondering what I was doing wrong - it wouldn't occur to me that it was the pattern ;)

Can't believe how fast you knit! Or your skills at making this so neatly when it is only five inches tall. What a poppet!
