Cath's Company

Sometimes I start to make one page and it turns into a different one. Sometimes I want to use one side of the paper and end up turning it over and using the other..

We were in London during the '94 World Cup, helping our friend Tony marry his lovely Californian bride at Chelsea Register Office. We posed on the steps for photos and the TV cameras started to attract a crowd. Really, though, it was just us and one of Tony's BBC mates doing a quick home wedding video on stuff he'd borrowed from work.

And that was supposed to be the story. But I laid out my paper (from October Afternoon Thrift Shop)

and a different story came.

After the wedding they settled in Hammersmith and we got into the habit of visiting every summer. The children were little, the days could be long, and I looked forward so much to seeing the shops and the shows, all the things I'd been reading about through the year. One sunny, sunny afternoon Lauri and I left the kids (for they had twins of their own by now) with the men and slipped away for an hour of peace at Cath Kidston. A couple of tube stops, a quick walk and sanctuary was ours.

And so that is what this page came to be about. I flipped the paper over and made this:

What was a layout about a bit of glamour turned into a layout about two mums wanting a bit of a break. And I think I like it better that way.

oooh, very good Sian, I like the way you think! You can still make two other layouts as well, but I love how this story came about and the colours your chose are gorgeous.

I could spend hours going through your blog and looking closely at all the details in your layouts. This is another wonderful example. I love the patterned paper layers underneath the clothes line. It gives such depth to the layout. I love your style, and I think you told an important story.

Love that you turned a story about a specific moment in time into a story about many everyday moments (wanting a break)! And the page is wonderful.

I like it too. Why no build the original L on the back? 2for the price of 1!

i know what you mean about a project sometimes having a mind of its own! but it worked out so well - i'm glad you were strong enough to let go of what you intended so that this idea could shine through!

Oh my gosh, Sian, I LOVE this layout! I really like the direction you took this, and especially love the line of clothing under the photo you chose. SOOOOOO cute!

You know I love a good clothesline! I love your story - isn't it amazing how those types of moments lodge in our brain and come tumbling out when we take a moment to reflect and remember. I also love how you ran your journaling along the edge of the page.

I love, love, love how you've put this together. And I shall think of you every time I nip along the tube line to CK at Turnham Green!

I've done that before with paper, I was determined to use some cherry paper only to end up using the other side. It's satifying when an idea develops into something lovely - just like yours.

I love the 'hanging' clothes. Is this in honor of Alexa's clothesline?

Lovely Sian! I really like how you took out the centre and turned it round, to give a bit of London map too (was that the part with Hammersmith, or the Cath Kidston shop?).
The clothes are great and I love the little patterned touches here and there, especially the photo background, the Kidston flowers and that strip of patterned paper on the right hand edge.
The only bad thing about double-sided paper, is that it's tricky to use both sides.. or at least, to use all of both sides - as you've shown you can use some of each!

Love the story behind the page, for me those are the best sort of pages. You have certainly captured the Cath Kidston style on your page, really pretty.

Love the story about the page. Sometimes Mummy's do need a little me time and what could be better than cath's company! The layout is so clever, I love it.
