Running Out Of Random

We're all shivering under a grey and cloudy sky here today. Could it be the effects of the volcanic ash? Maybe. We've been learning about irony, too. The Tall One is only recently returned from the Easter school trip to Pompeii and its bracing walk up Vesuvius. He brought his sister back a present. What do you think? It's obvious really..a big lump of volcanic sulphur to add to her collection of chemical curiosities, of course. She loves it. He, though, (as my old Grandma used to say) is feeling a little bit "diddled". He paid good, honestly earned Euro for that sulphur; and now he's thinking that if he had waited long enough, a bit might just have dropped out of the sky and into the garden. Mmm..

Lucky I headed over to Alana's Little Blue shed, then, and found myself a cheery Kreativ Bloggers Award. Thanks, Alana! I'm running out of random facts, I think; but this one requires creative facts so I think I can manage:
  1. Today I'm working on painting this chair cream. I love painting things cream. I've got a big tin of paint and I'm not afraid to use it.
  2. Yesterday I was working on a new scrapbook page and it's nearly finished:
  3. One of the first things I ever made in school was this picture about my trip to London. I entered it in a competition run by the local library and I won a beautiful book about Shakespeare.
  4. I also made this rag doll when I was about 10. My mum showed me how to cut leather boots from an old shopping bag; and I've been recycling ever since.
  5. I  made all the curtains in our house myself.
  6. I love making fancy dress costumes and once made a santa suit and matching elf outfits. The photos for that one are safely locked away.
  7. Before we got married I knitted The Accountant a jumper for his birthday. I started running out of time, so I got my mum to knit one sleeve. Which seemed like a good idea until it was washed: the sleeve I knitted sagged and stretched but the other one didn't. My Mother-In-Law is a knitter. She worked it out. But it wasn't a deal breaker. She still let me marry her son.
If you fancy an award, please have this one with my very best wishes. But, remember, I do want to hear those creative facts. Especially the ones which didn't quite work out. We've all got them. Haven't we?

Today I'm Loving..Sharyn's made-at-home Clip It Up Very clever. Very cool.

I have plenty of spare random if you'd like it?

Great facts, thanks for sharing :-) You've clearly always been a creative type! x

LOL about the volcanic rock! We thought we had found volcanic dust on our car and others in a car-park and falling from the sky on Saturday, but turned out just to be ash from a bonfire!
You were obviously very creative from a young age, Sian - that pearly queen picture is fantastic. And the peek of your LO in progress looks great too.

This is a fun post, Sian. I loved seeing the things you made when you were a young girl. Clearly, you've had that creative spirit all along!

Very creative all round aren't you? As I said before sewing and me don't really go together.
I see you have a little blue shed as well....I was thinking of stenciling a woman sign on mine...but that would be pointless as the men in the house don't enter it anyway! Thanks for the Matchbox photo...it stopped me going bonkers looking for a pic.

I love The Tall One's way of thinking - hopefully no volcanic rock falling from the sky though ;o).
Loved reading about your creativity, it's always interesting to see what other people make/have made.
Thanks for sharing

wow loving the shed, all it needs is some pretty bunting and some cushions like Sophie Dahl in her cokkery programme. I love pretty sheds, my dad has a shed but it's not pretty, however I can imagine painting pink and having afternoon tea in it using my cath kidson china if i can ever afford it.
wow a trip to vesuvius, maybe the tall one should do a guest post about that. are u allowed to bring bits of it home? it is quite amusing how bits of volcano are coming over us at the mo but much better to have been their to choose a nice piece for the small one.

Love the irony! DD Clara made an earth model this year for science, and it needed to have at least seven areas of geologic activity. Since then, there's been major activity on 4 of them!
I started off as a child with very easy embroidery, and my mom saved a few of my projects. Then it was on to counted cross-stitch before I found my current passions.

Today I have been painting the garden woodwork with its annual coat of Holly green creosote. I can't help thinking it'd all look so much prettier in pale blue and cream paint! :)
Wonderful list of facts ..

Aren't you creative! Love the rag doll - I remember making a pair of boots for my Sindy doll out of a pair of leather gloves! x alexa

I love that you have so many of your early (and lovely) creations. My first projects were embroidery and then sewing for a 4-H group. I do think there is still a tea towel somewhere.

Number seven is just far too hilarious!
Poor TTO! Forget about the irony, at least he's able to go on such a great school trip - the one draw back to life in Australia .... isolation.

Are you sure all the elf photos have been hidden away? Couldn't one make it onto the blog ...!
Love your random facts, it's nice to learn a little bit more about each other!

Wow Sian, you are multitalented aren't you?! I love seeing the things you made when you were young, I have a few xmas decorations I made as a child but they are a lot more childish looking than your stuff!

I'm looking forward to seeing the scrapbook page revealed!

I loved all your random facts but burst out laughing at the knitted jumper and "she still let me marry her son". I wouldn't have knitted my accountant a jumper as he was a knitter himself.
