Take My Challenge!

I was going to ask today if you've caught up with Jot magazine: but I don't think I need to! Lots of you have been in touch to say that you have been enjoying the first issue. Kim has done a wonderful job of pulling it all together and she's already planning to do it all over again with a new issue out at the beginning of September.

But before we get to that, there is plenty to keep us busy in issue one. Have you checked out the challenges? Jot would love you to have a go!. There are five to choose from (but, hey, why stop at one?) and I'm offering you..Challenge 3 What to Scrapbook When There's Nothing to Scrapbook About.

Make a page based around one of the prompts in my article and add it to the linky (thanks Mitra for being the first!). This is my page:

Sian Fair for Jot Magazine

"The first books I can remember reading by myself. It was the drawings which pulled me in. Shift dresses, cloche hats in a 1920's English country idyll. I loved it when my Grandparents came to visit and was very envious of Milly Molly Mandy and her big live in extended family. Plus, who wouldn't want a red and white striped dress? It was like my school uniform..only better.

I saved up my pocket money to buy the books in the only bookshop in town and while I was browsing I discovered Paddington. That series was next on my list.

They all sit on the pink painted shelves in my daughter's bedroom now. I cut her hair in a bob when she was little. I think she knows why.."

Or, of course, choose one of the others they're all tempting..):

- Challenge 1 The Cafe Challenge

- Challenge 2 Mardi's 365 Mini Book

- Challenge 4 Photo Booth Layout

- Challenge 5 Janelle's Upcycled Vintage Instagram Book

but do choose. Jot is about joining in!

This is such a beautiful page, Sian! I love the crispness of the colour contrasts and the squared paper 9reminds me of school!) and all your cleverly arranged bits. A great challenge (though I think it is only for paper scrappers, is that right?).

I love your embellishment cluster at the bottom right of your design, and the way it links up to the top left with the twine. So much movement in the page. Although I am never stuck for something to scrapbook as I am happy to even go waaaaaay back to find something :)

Oh I remember these books and loved them as an introduction to British culture when I arrived here. Lovely gentle colours with those pops of brighter colour :happy sigh:

Your page is just beautiful Sian. I like the squared paper you wrote on. I spent yesterday with lined notebook paper, the one with the red line down the left hand side? I stitched it, can't wait to show you.

I absolutely love this page - the journalling is so evocative, and this is a great idea of something to scrapbook that might otherwise be forgotten. I hope I get to join in with one of the challenges! :D xx

A beautiful page Sian. I just love all the books from my childhood. Maybe I should be considering using that topic for a layout.

Have had a quick look at Jot - but hoping to have more time over the weekend to explore it more fully

Mmmh never actually had a problem with what to scrapbook but more likely the overwhelming notion that I should have more motivation and ability. I'm loving the magazine and I too loved MMM, such memories it evokes,

I loved this book as a child too :)
Loved your article in JOT magazine, about to go away for a couple of weeks but certainly up for a challenge afterwards x

Great page Sian! Love the litte remark about TSO's haircut...

I loved MMM so much, that I made her whole village map from a large flat sheet of board, then populated it with very small houses and people made from plasticine. I remember spending hours on that project... I used to want a friend called "Susan" so I could call her "Little Friend Susan" (lucky perhaps, that I didn't have a "Susan" for a friend, until I was in senior school... by which point "Su" seemed much more cool!)

Thanks for sharing your beautiful scrapbook page. I love the colour & texture combinations (as ever!). I so like your scrapping style!

A delightful page - I read MMM to my eldest daughter when she was tiny. I am very taken with the mag as well - and loved your article - I am finding I keep popping back to the magazine to re read bits - so perhaps I might give the challenge a go. J x

What a beautiful page! I loved Milly Molly Mandy and still have an A4 copy, although sadly not an original (on TBC's bookshelf). And to my delight, there's a girl in TBC's class who is a dead ringer for MMM!
So, I gave your challenge ago and I have to thank you for writing down a story that I'd never have told on a scrapbook page otherwise.

I have a layout on my desk (the first in months) but life has gotten in the way of finishing it, so another challenge probably isn't in the cards. I'm still looking for time to finish perusing Jot as well. Hoping to find time for Storytelling Sunday this week.

Squared paper *and* doilies *and* butterflies *and* bakers twine *and* spots. Not to mention favourite childhood books. What more could you possibly need in a LO :o)

I bought the Milly Molly Mandy books for Clara when she was little. I loved reading them to her!
The first book I read by myself was called Peppermint Fence, and it was a reader with a variety of stories.
