So the suitcases are unpacked, the laundry is nearly finished and we are sighing over our souvenirs. We got back on Sunday night after almost three weeks away and we've been catching up all over the place. We have seen Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Estonia and - best of all - Russia. I have stories to tell and plenty of pictures to go with them; But most of those will keep: today it's Scavenger Hunt day. That's Rinda's Summertime Scavenger Hunt.
As soon as Rinda published this year's list I copied it into my holiday notebook and hoped for some good luck while I was away. The family wanted to join in too, and so The (Not So) Small One and I came up with a plan to add an extra dimension to our photos: she would stand behind me with her phone and take a picture of me taking a picture of our finds. I'm so glad we did it. too: it places each photo for us and adds to what we can remember. Here goes...
Starting to get a feel for my holiday packing? Lots of navy and grey and scarves to pull over my head when we were visiting churches
That's how close we were moored. I'm standing on the deck
and finally for today, the most amazing place of all...
Many thanks to Rinda for helping us to open our eyes and really look at what's around us. There's a linky open over at her place today and I'm off to check it out. Then it's back to the ironing. Or maybe a bit of gardening if the rain stays off...

I LOVE TNSSO's take on the Hunt - getting quite familiar with the cut of the back of your hair too! ;) Great shots.
What a fantastic idea - it gives you two views too. Your zoomed in shots and TNSSO's more panoramic ones. I love that you were on deck for the City Hall one - I assumed you were on a bridge!
The two views do make all of these extra-special, and I love the way you've presented them. The Hermitage is definitely on my bucket list, though I don't have high hopes of ever getting there. Can't wait to see your photos!
It would be quicker to tell you that I loved *everything* about this post! What a fabulous idea to work together on this - I may need to steal that idea sometime!
Your holiday looks so very beautiful - I'm quite quite envious.

I love this idea. Wish I had someone cute to take photos with me. Love the windmills especially and the mosaic,
Jo xxx
ps welcome home travellers x
Great idea to get 2 different views x
Looks like you had an amazing break :)
I too took the list away & my crew were very keen on spotting & crossing off our finds :D
Great finds Sian! Love the NSSO's idea of taking a picture of you taking the picture. Boy your pictures brought back lots of memories. Isn't it amazing how close the ships dock in Oslo?
Love your 'double' photos,Sian....and a great idea for the windmills.
What a great idea, the second photo puts the first one into perspective. Clever girls!
Great photos, looking forward to hearing more about your adventures.
What a fun idea to capture double photos! Great job finding these items on your trip.
Great finds and great pictures, it's fantastic that you've got a picture of you taking the picture :)
Love how you blog all your photos, super mosaic. BJ
Some super photos for your scavenger hunt Sian.
I ran a mini book class recently and one of the woman used the same idea. Her 9 yr old daughter had her first camera, so she took a photo of her daughter taking a photo and used these on a double page spread. I was very impressed especially when she told me after that she is a mini book convert, after being a committed scrapbooker. I am going away with my granddaughter in a week, so may try this for myself.
I'm also making our own holiday scavenger hunt - they absolutely loved it last year. Have fun with the rest of Rinda's list and I look forward to hearing more about your wonderful holiday.
as always great photos, it looks like a fantastic holiday.
Fabulous photos Sian! Lovely to see a different part of the world, and so happy that you shared the hunt with TNSSO!
Oh this was so fun to see, Sian. I love that your girl took photos from behind you - it gives such great perspective and also a little different view of the entire shot. So clever and very effective. Great shots for this round of the scavenger hunt round up, I can't wait to see more of your vacation photos!
Love to mosaic! Great idea for the double photos!
Love seeing where you went and your great photos...x
What a great combination of shots you two have created. Looking forward to hearing/seeing more about it.
Wookie and I are still thinking of a cruise - for our 25th wedding anniversary, I may email you questions if you wouldn't mind?
What a wonderful opportunity to travel you had, loved your photos - love the atmospheric contrast between the hustle and bustle in some photos and the peace in the windmill photo!
Got here ;) Love TNSSO's idea, great perspectives. I truly thought you took a photo of a shopkeeper sleeping on a bench inside lol, glad I had TNSSO's shot to see it for the art it was lol
Sounds Like A FABULOUS trip and a great opportunity to do Rinda's list.
Great finds. And I love how you presented them - will make them much more interesting to scrapbook. Your trip sounds so interesting. Can't wait to see pics
So. Much. Fun.
Great concept and great finds. I think the candles may be my favorite.
Henry and I were watching a Bourne movie yesterday, and I was telling him that I'd like to visit Russia someday. Very jealous! And looking forward to your stories.
Rinda
And I love, love, love the windmills!!!
Rinda
That is a great idea to have TNSSO take a shot of you taking the photo - love it!
So glad to see you again and it sounds as though you have had a wonderful experience ... Russia is on my list too.
Fab photos - I never thought to use the wind turbines as windmills!
stunning mosaic and I too love the 2 photo approach - so many ways this idea could be used
Wonderful trip! Such beautiful places. Cool project, specially with your family´s take on it.
Tati was soooo happy when people asked to get their picture taken with her in disguise at an anime convention that I took pics of people taking pics of her. :D
That mosaic is beautiful. I really like your idea of a photo of the photo taker. It adds more to the story and catches more of the background. I like the additional context. Thanks for dropping by today. You did read right ... I am looking for something new. It is a bit of a blow but I have applied for a ton of jobs and hope to hear from some of them soon as their closing dates were the end of July.
Wow, fantastic photos and what a neat idea the two of you had to put a different spin on the challenge. That mosaic is wonderful!
Such an interesting twist to have that second set of photos. Great to have the person in the family, who is usually behind the camera, in front of it as well.
Such a wonderful way to capture your memories - Brilliant idea. Looks like it was a truly wonderful holiday - and the 2 photos together are oing to make the most wonderful memory book/scrapbook pages. Welcome home to you all - J x
Such a great idea to have you in them too! Glad you ave had such a splendid time. I am going to enjoy admiring your travel wardrobe and pick up some cool tips :).
Fab take on the challenge, to have the extra pictures with you in them. Looks like you had a wonderful time. Only a year to go to till my next Baltic cruise - I am trying not to wish the time away but your photos have made me wish it was happening a bit sooner!!
Great photos and a fantastic idea for the (not so) Small One to take a photo of you taking the photo!
Beautiful photos
Love that behind the photographer angle. And a cruise to St Petersburgh is on my wish list for my 50th birthday next year.
What a brilliant idea. It really has added an extra dimension to your finds. Well done.
I love the double photos and a glimpse into your holiday, you have some unusual captures.
oooh fantastic photos....lovely places to have visited x
Brilliant fun. My step-mother's just done a similar cruise, a real whistle stop tour giving you a decent taste of each port. Glad you had a lovely time.
I am finally all caught up here (but not with my laundry :) and next on my list is posting my finds for the Scavenger hunt. I LOVE the idea your daughter and you came up!!! It's so fun to see the pictures side by side!
