I've been talking about making a knitted, nesting set of Matryoshka dolls since the summer holidays. A couple of weeks ago I finally got round to it. The knitting was the quick bit - the making up took a little longer; and they really only took on character when they were completely finished. Maybe they couldn't wait to get nesting.

Now that I've done one set, I fancy knitting out of the box a bit and creating a set in a completely different colour combination. Natural geys and creams or neon pinks and green: what do you think?
I'm glad I started with the traditional colours, though, because it meant I had a photo to use with a few more of the gorgeous Glitz papers from Gottacraft. This is what I made:
they are adorable and I love the idea of both a neon and a muted set - or even a combination to provide contrast and surprise

ReplyDeleteWow I can see why they took a time to make. Isn't that the way sometimes the making up is the bit that is time consuming and fiddly. Well worth the effort though and I think another set in the colours you suggested will look great.

These are wonderful, yes the putting together and sewing ends in etc is always the worst bit isn't it? Inspired layout too - love it x
ReplyDeleteLovely Sian. where do you get your ideas? Yes, the knitting's quick, the finishing takes the time. I know. I like the sound of a muted set, but the colours you've used surely can't be beaten as they look so pretty.

ReplyDeleteAren't they delightful! I can see that the making up and putting together must have been very fiddly. I think neutrals sound classy - grey or taupe, pale beige, white or cream combination would be my favourite. Your LO of them will be a great reminder with all those pretty and bright papers. Like the way you've postioned the reds ...

ReplyDeleteThere were some scrap papers and stamps with these dolls last year... can't remember whose though, but they were nice.
I might make some stamps myself actually... they'd be fun to play with!
I like coming to your blog - I always see something fun, or read a great story; and I often find some inspiration for my own projects too!

ReplyDeleteVery clever Sian, a friend of my mums went to Russia and came back with a set that had yeltsin, clinton, gorby, clinton and bush(no.1) and that looked great maybe you could do one of your family?
