So the Gatsby "story" card got me thinking. I did a bit of browsing around and came up with a collection of "story" quotes: I'm going to do a signature series of story cards.
Like this:
Or maybe you'd like one of these?
"Old storytellers never die. They disappear into their own story."
"Stories are a communal currency of humanity." Arabian Nights
"Stories make us more alive, more human, more courageous, more loving." Madeleine L'Engle
"Stories can conquer fear, you know. They can make the heart bigger." Ben Okri
"The universe is made up of stories, not of atoms." Muriel Rukeyser
"There is always room for a story that can transport people to another place." J. K. Rowling
..and that, of course, is my cue to remind everyone of Storytelling Sunday next week. Pick Your Precious, or anything else you'd like to tell us about and come and join us next week.
"The unread story is not a story; it is little black marks on wood pulp. The reader, reading it, makes it live." Ursula K. Le Guin
Short or tall, we'll read them all. I can guarantee it!
I like Ursula's quotes .. though, I can't quite accept that it is the start of yet another month!
ReplyDeleteI am planning on joining in again this month now that things have settled down here. I love some of those quotes.
ReplyDeleteLove these quotes Sian, looking forward to reading everyone's stories. Really must pluck up the courage to join in :)
ReplyDeleteHugs, Estelle xx
or my own personal favorite: "In the end, the only thing you really own is your story." Hugh Jackman as the Drover in Australia
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous card and an inspiring set of quotes. Always lovely to drop by and see what you're up to, even if that's not as often as I'd like.
ReplyDeleteI'm ready!
ReplyDeleteThis is so apt at the moment,as my friend who self published her book on kindle is having very exciting things happen for her! I can't divulge before her press release but let's just say - dreams do come true!
ReplyDeleteI love the quote you used on your card. Here's another good one to add to your collection:
ReplyDelete“After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.”
― Philip Pullman
Thinking of a story... ideas are there, I just need to sort them out (good thing there is still a week left!)
ReplyDeleteThe quotes are great - I'll see if I can find any more in my notebook.
Such a lovely card, I bet you really enjoyed making that :)
ReplyDeleteOh fab quotes, I loved Ursula Le Guin's stories when I was younger. Great idea for the cards.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Storytelling Sunday!
... and it is going to make a great series! Loving the details on your card!
ReplyDeleteIn one word - awesome!
ReplyDeleteWonderful story quotes!!
ReplyDeleteI have a layout with a story all ready for next Sunday, just need to get my blog post ready. AND I'm working on a special item this week - sanding, repainting, etc, so I'll hopefully be able to share its story in July! :>)
Thanks so much for inspiring us to tell our stories in such a fun way each month!
These cards are inspired Sian. Hoping to join in this month after a break. Just need to remember the safe place I put my matchbox in!

I love your top one especially! A great series of quotes and a very pretty card.
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes and a fab card!

Some great quotes there! Managed to do that heavy lifting today to take te photos I need for Sunday's story!
ReplyDeleteI like the "communal currency" idea. In a world where differences between us seem to be the focus of everyone's attention, it's nice to be reminded that we are all, at our root, people with fond memories of our forbears, childhoods, and our own children. I'm looking forward to what everyone comes up with for next week's Storytelling Sunday.
ReplyDeleteFabulous card and I love all the quotes, great inspiration as card sentiments :) I am hoping to get the time to participate this month, I have the perfect precious.
ReplyDeleteLove me a good quote as much as a good story. I haven't even given a thought to mine - better mull that over. Thanks for the prompt!
ReplyDeleteSuch fantastic quotes Sian. I have really grown to love story telling; maybe not quite as much as photography. But I do love working on crafting the words I put on my blog. Thanks for the reminder about Storytelling Sunday. I had completely forgotten! We leave in a few hours for So.Cal. so may or may not get to it.

p.s. I just did a digital photo book with our Ireland pix and was reminded how much fun we had and camaraderie we felt during our visit up your way!
Love these story cards! Great idea to combine inspiring words with some lovely crafting. I keep a book of quotes that is a bit more random.
ReplyDeleteLovely quotes and story quote cards are a great idea
ReplyDeleteWeird - I know I commented here but tis gone. Have you read Storycatcher? One of my favourite books on stories.
ReplyDeleteOff to try and remember what quotes I put last time....
What great quotes Sian. Love that card. I'll be joining in later today - it's been kind of weird here and I didn't get the chance to do it over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes. Great card. This post reminds me of one of my all-time favorite books The Call of Stories by Robert Coles. It's one of the few books I've reread, and might again now that you've reminded me of it.
