I owe Annie The Felt Fairy a post. And an apology. Last year I took part in her year long Monthly Make challenge. It was a lot of fun and I was quick to say Yes! I'll do it again in 2012. It's even bigger and brighter this time round, with a monthly cheerleader to keep us all going. I'm going to be Miss November. But before then, I wanted to get stuck in cheering on January and February and - well, I hope to enjoy all the January makes by the end of the week.
And I have finally got round to posting my Make:

Our doll isn't a Helen Kish, it's a Madeline (from the books by Ludwig Bemelmans). We have a collection of the characters, The (not So) Small One and I, gathered up over the years and pictured in an early blog post here. Sometimes we still find the time to dress them up; and sometimes I still like to make them something new to wear. Trouble is, once I start, it's hard to stop. I've got a rucksack to do..
But maybe that's for next month. There is still plenty of time to join in with the Makes - it can be anything at all and you may post a picture on the Flickr Group or find out more by reading The Felt Fairy. February's hostess will be Natalie of Hungry Hippie.

That is so adorable. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who buys a pattern and then ha sit hanging round for years. Maybe when I retire..........

ReplyDeleteReally adorable and terribly stylish, too! This week I'm working on the front hallway where many of Clara's American Girl dolls have migrated. I need to find a good storage system for them because they're definitely heirloom quality (even though she's past time to play with them).

Oh you are so talented! This outfit is beautiful!! That is great that you are doing a monthly make again this year. Do you ever feel overwhelmed by your crafty world? I do and actually am feeling that way right now. BTW I still like the idea of playing with dolls. Before we moved to our condo, I finally donated the Barbie collection, but not before I fixed all their hair, dressed them up and bagged them with coordinating outfits. Yeah, I was just playing and my DH was looking at me like I had rocks in my head. ;)

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, those clothes are adorable! I spent some time in my twenties making doll clothes. I guess I was hoping to have girls one day who would play with them. It was a lot of fun.

ReplyDeleteAdorable! My mom used to make wonderful outfits for my dolls. Sarah was never a big fan of dolls so although I sewed for her, I never got into making doll clothes. This doll is so sweet.

ReplyDeleteMe, not so much! I recently noticed that the elastic in the sleeves of the dress our 1980s Cabbage Patch Kid clone is wearing had worn out. So, I thought, time for a new outfit! I didn't find anything I liked in the toy store so I decided to look at newborn-size outfits, but nothing was quite right. Finally, I took the time to actually look at the dress and discovered that the elastic was in a very basic casing, so it was an easy repair to replace it and now Dolly looks almost as good as new. Of course, it was weeks between the time I first noticed the problem and when I finally fixed it. So, you can see, I'm not johnny-on-the-spot the way you are!
Oh, Sian, I just love this! SOOOOO adorable. I loved looking at all the lovely details - SUPER LOVE her beret!
ReplyDeleteWhen Carrie was little I went through a time of making clothes for her Cabbage Patch doll, so I can really appreciate the small pattern pieces and challenge those present. Your little doll outfit is just perfect!
