What Makes Me My Mother...

...a layout and some answers.

So, what did my photography survey show? Well, nearly all of you said that you liked one detail shot:

but that more than one could be too many. I'm pretty sure that's what I think too. Details need to add something. And most, but not all, of you said that you liked staged photos:

Yes, that tiny baby is me

I do too; and I'm already looking at new ways of presenting my pages. I'm in talks with my DIY expert as we speak. So I'll leave you today with my other work-in-progress: a layout I think I'll probably add to. Do you have any of those? Layouts with room for more journaling?

I love the fact that it is a finished work, but also a work in progress.

  8. I wouldn't ad too much more to this layout. I think it's pretty much perfect as it is.

  9. This page is gorgeous Sian, really beautiful and subtle. I think you nailed the presentation too! If you don't mind, I'd like to try this method of sharing pages.

  10. What a stunning layout Sian. I have taken note of the results from your pole and am now only going to include 1 detail photo. Also love how you have presented your page.

  14. Pretty layout - and now I understand what you mean by "staged", I didn't click when I answered the survey. I find adding stuff to layouts later to be difficult - and as far as journaling goes, one can always write on the back - that doesn't require messing with the design - easier for me.

  16. Your layout has got me thinking about how much I am like my Mum. The stitched journal circles are a really great idea, like them a lot.

  17. I love this, so soft and gentle. Yes I might go with a mini book to add more to. That's my favourite way of journalling on a page.

  19. gorgeous layout Sian! I for one do appreciate more than one detail shot if the subject warrants it. But then, I'm also drawn to all forms of macro photography, so maybe it is just me!

  20. Another gorgeous page. I'm another fan of the stitching, and always of your embellishments! Great subject for a layout.

  21. Really like the stitched circles with the journalling in.

  22. I had a little wooden plaque made for my daughter as a jokey Christmas present. It said "Mirror, Mirror on the wall, I am my mother after all"
People who ring up never know if it is her or me and when my mother was alive they couldn't tell the three of us apart on the phone. My daughter's daughter is well along the path to join us and she is only six!

  23. I remember thinking "I'll never say/do that when I'm a Mum" but of course I do!! Its a lovely page and definately room for other observations but also perfect as it is.

  24. Those stitched circles are fantastic! Have you asked TTO and TNSSO what they think and for their observations of when you and Granny are together?

  25. Lovely page! I especially like the little detail on the lower right. You're so good at adding that sort of perfect balance.
I almost bought a stamp that said, "Sooner or later, we all quote our mothers."

  26. I love your little stitched circles - and the fact that you've left space for more thoughts when appropriate... Such a pretty and soft colourway. And you look very sweet!

  27. I love the soft vintage feel to this layout Sian and the added lace bits. Adding more journaling is a wonderful idea and something TSO will likely treasure when she is your age :)

  28. i love this page. it's gorgeous. I love how you present your pages - the staging is great.

  31. This is so beautiful! I love those circles, I have pinned it so I can borrow this idea at a later point. I just love everything about it.

  32. A stunning page. I love the stitched circles with the journaling inside! The wooden butterflies are perfect. Still looking for those in my neck of the woods. They are on my wish list. Love the idea of a staged LO photo! I sometimes do that for cards but never thought of it for a LO.

  33. Love your detail shot, really captured a great look from that angle. I do like the staged shots. I wonder if I have a good spot for staging that also has great light, tricky combo, I think.

  34. I'm so glad we agree on these things Sian:) I need a DIY expert too, could you send them over to me when you have finished? I don't usually go back to a lo to add journalling as I know when I start what I want to say but I do leave it overnight occassionally and add an embelly or the like.

  35. Beautiful layout. I love the soft colours you've chosen, and wonderfully staged of course.

  36. Ah. I didn't have chance to vote but your beautifully staged photograph would have swung my response. I love a detailed photograph (or two, if there's additional areas of a page that need highlighting!) but as long as the photograph is taken well enough that I can really see the layout - it's all good.

Some beautiful cards in the making too Miss! x

  38. One of the things that I've always loved about your blog post photos is the way you stage your layouts. You inspire me every time I see those shots!

And your layout about your mom is lovely, Sian. Oooh...and how cute is that little baby photo of you?!?!

  39. TFS the survey results :) I totally adore this layout idea, in some ways I am glad I am like mama but in other ways I cringe. Great photo!

  40. Love the stitching on this layout!

  41. Love the layout. Did you add more to it?
