Ah, Little E. That blonde rapscallion of a nephew of mine. He's been pretty quiet round here lately, don't you think?
I don't know if his Mum would agree. His second birthday has come and gone. The icecream van turned up at his party and he, and assorted other 2, 3, 5, 6 and 40 somethings, enjoyed a vanilla flavoured feast. Then, very soon after, Little E welcomed The Terrible Two's with open arms. Embraced them, in fact, celebrated them by lying down outstretched on the tarmac in the supermarket carpark. And as his Mum sagely observed:
"They tell you to walk away and ignore bad behaviour. But if I walked away and left him lying in the carpark, I'd probably get arrested."
I think she's right. Her boy has spirit, though, I'll give him that. Last I heard, he had taken off his socks and was colouring his feet purple. Now that's creative.

Yes, I know the drill oh so very well indeed .. a certain soon to be Five Year Old can throw a mighty tantrum ... my problem is trying to stop from giggling, it is extremely funny sometimes ... hair pulling at other times!
ReplyDeleteI love your page Sian. Your nephew does sound a character. My youngest grand daughter once laid on the floor at home and had a screaming tantram. My daughter laid down next to her and copied. Ivy stopped immediately and stared at her, wondering what she was doing! I can just picture her puzzlement! Ivy has never done it since but I guess if your nephew's Mum tried this in a car park she might get some very strange reactions from the public! The way people video these days she might even find herself on 'You've been framed'. Now that would be a story to tell!

Oh yes the youngest indulged in those and still does from time to time - they always choose the most public of places don't they. Purple feet sound interesting!?!

ReplyDeleteI love your story today Sian. We have several little Rapscallions at school at the moment. One got me into trouble today because I laughed at him when I discovered he was the one who has set the fire alarm off, in the middle of a staff meeting, making the head think there was a real fire as he hadn't set off the drill alarm!
ReplyDeleteOh your story about Little E made me giggle! The twins have just turned 18months, and so far there have been no tantrums (not proper ones anyway!) poor things are just getting upset by their teeth coming through :(

I wish I had been into scrapbooking when my children were toddlers, the things they do and the words they say are so funny, though not always at the time!! Lovely page, I love the red wood affect paper

ReplyDeleteOh those were the days - thank goodness they're gone :P Lovely page and lucky you to have (other people's) toddlers to scrap about - a bit like grandchildren I expect - all the cuteness but none of the hassle!
ReplyDeleteI once joined my youngest on the floor in Woolworths when he began a tantrum. He stood up, screamed "Not you! ME,ME MUMMY!" and began to walk away from me - and this is when I realised how desperate he was for attention - with the back of his hand against his forehead and sobbing dramatically.

Is there any mother who cannot relate to that story? I loved my children at every age, but I do not miss the tantrum stage. Though I must admit, the teenage dramas held a close second, and I don't miss those either. Great layout!

ReplyDeleteMy son once threw the most dramatic tantrum inside a supermarket, laying on the floor, arms and legs flying everywhere. In the end he found himself underneath the trolley and he clutched hold of the underside of it and wouldn't let go. He was immediately quiet and seemed happy so that is how we continued with the shopping. Can you imagine what people must have thought?! Love the image of the purple feet, obviously going to be a famous artist ;-)

ReplyDeleteI love so many things about this Sian - the paper, the design of the layout, the banner bunting, the story behind it. My spirited daughter was 2 in April and she is so much more demanding than her brother was and I thought he was hard work. She and I are very alike. I am DREADING her being a teenager...
ReplyDeleteLove the fact he's colouring his feet purple. I feel like I should try colouring in my feet too, though I can't reach them very well over the baby belly, and I'm a bit ticklish, so maybe not. Let the young one's have all the fun eh?

I've often thought it's a good thing children usually come when the parents are young: 1) the parents likely have more energy than they would if they were older and 2)if they were old enough to know how difficult childrearing can be, they might choose not to have kids, and then where would we be?
