The Word is "Reach"

"So, Mum. You. One Little Word. Never going to work," said The Tall One this morning. "You just open your mouth and it all comes out."

(Mmm..wonder who you take after, son)

"What do you do with this word anyway?" he continued.

"You hold onto it for the year, try it out, use it. My word is REACH," I said.

"Reach?" he said, incredulously, " Reach? Mum," and he looked down on me kindly, "That's not a new word for you. You use it all the time. Every day. Like - would you REACH me down that big casserole dish, please? Or I could clean right under the bed, but I can't quite REACH..."

And he sniggered as he walked away.

Funny. But wait..then I started looking for photos for "Yesterday And Today" and I found this

maybe he has a point after all....

  1. What a lovely photo and story, Sian.
I would love to do Yesterday & Today but already feel overloaded and not able to keep up with courses I am doing.
I may think about it next time. I have gathered quite a lot of photos and family records... just need to write some stories now. I will look forward to hearing about your own meanwhile and think about what I can do with my own one day.
    Have a good day :)

  26. Great story, Sian - and a great word too! I love that photo - it is fab.
Having just spent part of my weekend in company with my (5'2") BFF and her Amazonian offspring - Boy, 14, 6'1", Girl, 15, 5'5" (she says but I think she's taller) - I can sympathise about REACH. Suddenly I felt small (and I am 5'5"). However, I too have found myself scaling the heights of the supermarket shelf, trying to REACH some necessity that has been placed right at the top, well beyond my arm-stretch. Sometimes I think the Tall are just having a laugh...

  28. Love your son's comments and how funny that you have a "yesterday" picture to go with your word. :) Somehow I don't think I'll find a picture from either yesterday or today to go with "organize"

  29. Great story! I don't think kids get the idea of setting a goal for a year . . . too young and impatient I think.
