"So, Mum. You. One Little Word. Never going to work," said The Tall One this morning. "You just open your mouth and it all comes out."
(Mmm..wonder who you take after, son)
"What do you do with this word anyway?" he continued.
"You hold onto it for the year, try it out, use it. My word is REACH," I said.
"Reach?" he said, incredulously, " Reach? Mum," and he looked down on me kindly, "That's not a new word for you. You use it all the time. Every day. Like - would you REACH me down that big casserole dish, please? Or I could clean right under the bed, but I can't quite REACH..."
And he sniggered as he walked away.
And he sniggered as he walked away.
Funny. But wait..then I started looking for photos for "Yesterday And Today" and I found this
maybe he has a point after all....
What a lovely photo and story, Sian.
ReplyDeleteI would love to do Yesterday & Today but already feel overloaded and not able to keep up with courses I am doing.
I may think about it next time. I have gathered quite a lot of photos and family records... just need to write some stories now. I will look forward to hearing about your own meanwhile and think about what I can do with my own one day.
Have a good day :)
Your blog posts always make people feel they're right there with you. Another one here, that needs the work Reach rather a lot.
ReplyDeletegreat photo to go with a great little anecdote. always make me smile x
ReplyDeletesuch a cute photo. funny how our one little words have so many layers of meaning. my word is together - you can read about it here: http://blackbirdinflight.blogspot.com/2011/01/together.html
ReplyDeleteLovely story Sian, made me smile today. These teens eh, think they know it all. Anyhow, I am sure you have grown a bit since the photo....just a bit?
ReplyDeleteGreat photo and story Sian, I love it when you include snippets of conversations as they make me smile! x
ReplyDeleteIsn't it lovely to have TTO point out that you have spent your whole life reaching? But Sian - so have we all!
ReplyDeleteAdorable photo Sian. Love your little tale of some of the wonderful things kids say and how amusing it is to us! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the smile :) Enjoy the day. Oh, and thanks for the reminder I have to do my Y&T soon!!
ReplyDeleteLOL - GSOH your son! Fraid I don't get the "One word" idea either but hope it works for you. Lovely photo though!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable photo & thanks for bringing a smile to my face with your recounting that bit of dialogue...I was feeling a bit down after watching the news headlines & needed a lift...job done!! ♥
ReplyDelete:o) Thanks for the early morning smile, Sian. This is a really cute post. xo
ReplyDeleteTotally enjoyed this post!! Gotta love these children of ours. They keep us humble. ;) That photo is too cute! :)
ReplyDeleteI love it when your posts make me laugh out loud! Gorgeous photo ~ hope to see it in Y&T.
ReplyDeleteGood photo - tell this story when you scrap it. I looked at Today and Yestrday ut couldn't justify the price
ReplyDeleteBut here, Sian, you did reach - even though it was a stretch - all by yourself. And you didn't have to ask anyone. :)
ReplyDeleteAnother post that makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteLove that picture :D My word is 'DO!' I plan to stop yapping and planning and saying 'maybe' and 'one day' and start to DO lots this year :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely words over at mine Sian - I hope you know the feeling is mutual. You made a snotty, coughy, achey girl very happy this afternoon :)
It made me smile,Sian....but I think my kids would make exactly the same comment as yours.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo.
The Tall One is sounding more cheeky by the day :) Reach - now that's something I have to do alot!
ReplyDeleteI'm 5' 1" so reaching for things is very appropriate for me too!
ReplyDeleteLove that photo - what a great post!
Made me smile too....i love it when that happens. Great post x
ReplyDeleteThis post (and photo) made me smile a lot!! :0) x
ReplyDeleteWell, he is quite the one for wit isn't he? 'Reach' is a great word Sian, as you go through the year perhaps TTO will learn just how far this little word will take his mum!
ReplyDeletelol, Kids! Cute story and the pic is too adorable! Can't wait to see how you use in class!
ReplyDeleteGreat story, Sian - and a great word too! I love that photo - it is fab.
ReplyDeleteHaving just spent part of my weekend in company with my (5'2") BFF and her Amazonian offspring - Boy, 14, 6'1", Girl, 15, 5'5" (she says but I think she's taller) - I can sympathise about REACH. Suddenly I felt small (and I am 5'5"). However, I too have found myself scaling the heights of the supermarket shelf, trying to REACH some necessity that has been placed right at the top, well beyond my arm-stretch. Sometimes I think the Tall are just having a laugh...
Oh my, what a wonderful photo to represent your word! Love the conversation with your son.
ReplyDeleteLove your son's comments and how funny that you have a "yesterday" picture to go with your word. :) Somehow I don't think I'll find a picture from either yesterday or today to go with "organize"
ReplyDeleteGreat story! I don't think kids get the idea of setting a goal for a year . . . too young and impatient I think.
ReplyDeleteRinda
I'm with everyone, your post made me smile too. Being'a short one'-I use that word lots too ! And I love your counterfeit kit x
ReplyDeleteJust one word for this post: fabulous! I loved everything about it. Reach seems like a wonderful word. I'll have to keep it in the back of my mind for another year.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can still reach to give him a clip round the ear?! ;-)
ReplyDeletehe hee! You crack me up Sian!
