With thoughts of summer fading fast, I'm looking back today with a page about a camping holiday we took, oh, three years ago now. Wait, did I say camping? I meant glamping. At a Featherdown Farm.
We had spotted an ad in the paper: camping with added nice bits? An old Girl Guide never dies: she just upgrades her tent. I liked the idea.
And once I had persuaded everyone else to like it to, we had a glorious time. I had to say "glorious" there, see, to make us sound all Enid Blyton and Famous Five. Yes, it did rain. Quite a lot. But we had proper beds to lie on as we listened to the wet hitting the canvas, and a real wood stove to keep us warm. We read by the light of the oil lamps, but we made full use of the ensuite. We walked the farm and talked to the chickens, then we jumped in the car and went to the beach. There is, as my layout says, no glum in glamping.
So I knew what I was going to make when the Get It Scrapped call came for a glamping inspired page. The idea was to use the glamour camping look: I just happened to have the matching photos to add. Our tent was styled with a vintage Gypsy caravan kind of a feel, or a canal boat, with its stove and enamel cups and plates. It made me think of Mr. Toad dressed as the washerwoman in Wind of the Willows. So I used that inspiration to add flowers to a rustic, wood patterned background with touches of gold. We were looking for glamour, after all, and that mix, so I have a canvas bird..with added glitter. I loved this prompt from Get It Scrapped: there are so many ways you can take this look and you can find more right here
We're off travelling again tomorrow. We have that much talked about student delivery trip to make. So it might be a few days before I'm back again. Have a great weekend, whatever you are up to!
Oh, all those lovely bits certainly glam up your page. Almost tempts me to want to camp - almost.
ReplyDeleteOh and good luck on the drop-off trip. I hope he has a great year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely page! No matter how you dress it up, camping is still camping in my book and enforced camping with the military has put me off for life!
ReplyDeleteSafe travels to Bonny Scotland.
Great page Sian...how ,glorious' that you had the pictures as well!
ReplyDeleteHave a safe journey ...hope you are equipped for all weathers!!
Alison xx
Ah I wondered how TTO was getting to Uni, Princess is packing and wondering how much will fit into an estate car... Good luck with the delivery, I hope it all goes well and you enjoy the skype chats.
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful layout, Sian. I love how you used the burlap/gauze as a base for your embellishments. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you and yours as you get your boy settled this weekend! I'll be thinking of you. xo
I love the textures you used Sian, your colours and design really suit the title.
ReplyDeleteI love a bit of glamping myself. I have stayed in a beautiful gypsy caravan with a bow top and next weekend I am off for a stay in yurt. I believe there is a chandelier and a log burner and I must remember to take some photos.
Have fun on your own travels this weekend x
Good luck to your son Sian! Lovely page:)
ReplyDeleteHmmm. We camp in a tent here. I think I'd prefer glamping! Hope your delivery goes smoothly! I'm sure the Tall One will do well.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea and great page! I really like the use of the doilies.
ReplyDeleteMy Grandson is off to John Moore's in Liverpool to do a course in outdoor leadership and stuff - I forget exactly what the real title is. He completed his DofE a couple of years ago and this is the natural progression. So at the grand old age of 23 he is a mature student and will be driving all his stuff up to his digs and then driving back and then turning around and going back by train because there is no need of a car where he is going to be.
ReplyDeleteHe is training to go comping!!
Have a great time travelling. Glamping to me means a vintage, shabby chic and I think you've captured that beautifully.
ReplyDeleteLove this page and title! Love the mix of burlap and gold glitter! Such a terrific mix of elements to look at here! Oh memories of camping with the Girl Guides. Now my idea of camping is a really nice hotel. Best tent ever! ;)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely glamped up, the camping and the layout. Best of luck to TTO and to the three of you at home as you adjust.
ReplyDeleteNow that sounds like my idea of camping! Great layout.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the trip, keep smiling and be brave when you get to the "goodbye" part x
Good luck with the drop off. I can't wait to hear all about his adventures.
ReplyDeletetoo much gold, i'm dying of happiness
ReplyDeleteand because i'm 24 and crazy, i really really want to go camping right now. in the wilderness with a crappy little tent kind. <3
Good luck. here's to new phases and new adventures
ReplyDeleteThat sounds almost appealing. I really don't like camping but a large part of that is lack of bathroom and sleeping on the ground and this sounds very nearly doable.
ReplyDeleteNow this is my kind of camping! I love your description of it almost like a caravan or canal boat!
ReplyDeleteYour scrapbook page is gorgeous and perfect! Love that fabric.
We were looking for ideas for our hols next year and after reading your post glamping is now a possibility.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the student delivery - I have to take Gracia back to Newcastle at the end of the month and am sticking my head in the sand as we have had such a glorious time this summer and I don't want it to end.
Great layout and I really fancy staying there too! Hope the student delivery goes smoothly xx
ReplyDeleteFantastic layout! Good luck on the drop-off. We're on the two week count-down, and Henry is chomping at the bit to get going. I"m sure the Tall One will soar in his new environment.
ReplyDeleteRinda
I think glamping is the way to go! We spent our vacation in a log cabin this summer - a luxury log cabin that is! (3 stories, game room, hot tub, pool table, pingpong table, etc ....)
ReplyDeleteI love camping and that seems a really popular site. I love your layout x
ReplyDeleteGreat layout and love the hessian. I'd like to think we glamp but in reality we camp!! Good luck with TTO x
ReplyDeleteYour girl guide quote made me laugh! I love Featherdown so much. We are going to their stew weekend at the beginning of October before they shut down. You've captured it beautifully.
ReplyDeleteHello Sian, catching up with you today, your pages are just beautiful and it was so nice to see lots all together. Congratulations to The Tall One and I hope he has a wonderful time during the next part of his life. Oh you will miss him so much!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect adventure for this assignment! I might consider doing something like that, although my husband says my idea of roughing it is spending less than $100 on the hotel room. Lovely, lovely page.
ReplyDeleteLove all the textures on this great Lo x
ReplyDeleteYour post reminds me of one of the Harry Potter books--the one about the Quidditch world cup (I think) where Mr. Beasley provided a tent to house his children and their friends. Humble on the outside, the tent seemed a mansion on the inside. Definitely no glum there, at least until the dementors showed up!
ReplyDeleteVisually luscious page, Sian! And glamorous too - I love the wood block and hessian look ...
ReplyDeleteThat's a great page Sian and I think glamping sounds so much better than camping - especially when it's raining. :)
ReplyDeleteI have done a terrible job at visiting here lately but I did Pin this page when I first saw it on Pinterest :) I pretty much love the whole thing!
ReplyDeleteOff to catch up some more!
