Oh Dave You Doll

As I wandered round on Saturday morning Craft Market here last week, it seemed to me that everyone was looking and admiring, but not buying. Maybe, like me, they were thinking - that would make a great Christmas present, but it's a little too early to start putting things away just yet.

It's hard not to think ahead just a bit, with all those back-to-school things appearing everywhere just now, though. The first present I tucked away last year was a doll. I spotted a little piece about personalised character dolls in Mollie Makes magazine and I immediately thought of - Uncle Dave: my brother who lives in the US. For some reason it suddenly seemed important that I buy him a mini-me. I thought the idea of an alter ego would make him laugh, so I looked up Timo Handmade on Etsy, liked what I saw (very much!) and sent a message. Yes,the reply came back, quick and friendly, a Dave Doll was definitely do-able. I sent a photo and a description; and we didn't have to wait long for our Dave Delivery.

Sian Fair for Get It Scrapped

We pulled him out of the box and gasped..there was Dave, right there, on the coffee table! Timor had got him just right. Eventually, of course, we had to wrestle him back into the box and parcel him up and he travelled back to the States in the suitcase of the full size Dave. But,maybe you are thinking what I'm thinking? Who might be next? Little E? Miniaturised?

This page was made for a Get It Scrapped project on "Scraplifting Yourself". I chose to lift another page I made about a doll, just to see if I could give a similar subject an entirely different look. here's the original

All the details are on the Get It Scrapped blog, together with tips from thirteen other scraplifting scrapbookers. Worh a look!

  12. Oh odd - I saw this title and immediately thought of your previous doll page. Fun to see you were lifting it. What a great capture. We have a 'Flat Wookie' similar to the 'Flat Stanley' paper dolls - which someone mailed him in an envelope.

I like Louise's idea of the full family - after all some people are leaving soon :sniff:

  16. Mini-me? Inspired for sure! Among other things, it would make a great retirement gift, don't you think?

As for your scraplift project, I appreciated your advice at Get It Scrapped--that a lift isn't repetition, it's a style statement.

  24. You did a great job of 'lifting' yourself. I scrolled back and forth to compare both and I like the new one better. The hand stitching really lifts it. They are similar but yet very different :) I love the fact that it is a masculine 'doll' layout.
