..or maybe not? Here's a random fact about me: I love Batman movies.
Any director, any actor: I've watched them all, many, many times. My Bat Companion in this is The Tall One, who sees it as his duty (when his Mum is looking frazzled) to put a DVD in the slot and steer me towards the sofa. We like the newer ones, we like the older ones; and we both have a sneaking admiration for Val Kilmer in the role, though we know that puts us in the minority.
I made The (Not So) Small One a Poison Ivy costume, once, with dozens of felt leaves sewn onto layers of green net. Have I ever borrowed it? You shouldn't ask me a question like that...
Round here they say I drive like I'm in my own Batmobile; but actually what I'd really like is my own Bat Signal. How cool would that be? They clubbed together and bought me a Martha Stewart bat punch for Mother's Day this year, just in case I wanted to get started on making my own. Signal, that is.
Instead, I used it to get me started on a page I've been meaning to make for at least a year now. It's all thanks to "Look Up, Look Down Helena", who, some time ago now, was lucky enough to be in New York when parts of The Dark Knight Rises were being filmed there. I left an envious comment when I saw the photos on her blog. I turned green, let's be honest, and it wasn't because I was wearing my Poison Ivy costume. I told her...
..and within minutes a photo landed in my inbox. It was a Bat Photo all of my very own and seriously? I think it's one of the most clever things anyone has ever given me.
One of the Gotham City Police Dept Cops says: " Why did the Chief call out all the boys?"
and the other one replies: "Sian had to go back to the library, but she told us to keep an eye out for possible stories"
She what I mean? Of course I love it! So I had to make a layout and here it is: with a bit of a mad mix of library ephemera and cartoon characters. Serious and funny, dark and light. That's Gotham for you.
Have a great weekend everyone.
While I am no Batgirl, I think everything about this page is utterly sensational!
ReplyDeleteGood to see you again Sian!
Fab idea for a page - I'd have to do one for TOTR as that's the hot series here, with Batman a close second along with all the other Marvel characters.
ReplyDeleteFab mix of stuff on your layout and how lovely that the kids bought you that punch.
I love this so much. And it's made me nostalgic for the days I used to scrap films etc! Why don't I do that any more?
ReplyDeleteI love all the bits, and how the post has bits of everything Sian-like: libraries, journaling, a story, the tall + Not so small, internet friends ... a costume...
Love it! x
I love how they clubbed together for the MS punch - they must know you so well! A great layout and very funny post!
ReplyDeleteHa ha.....we love Batman too:) New and old. I eat he'd the oldies when I was younger and we still watch them for a laugh as they are just do cheesy. Holy Batpunch Sian, that's one hell of a layout:))
ReplyDeleteI loved the old Batman series as a child and enjoy all the films.
ReplyDeleteI too have seen all the Batmans, and the TV series. Loved the ''kapow'' and ''thwack'' bubbles it was all so camp. But I have to be honest and state for that Christian Bale is my Batman. He's handsome, cool, sexy and ooh just everything he should be even with a beard, and I'm a man with a beard girl at all.
ReplyDeleteDidn't rave much for Heath Ledger's Joker myself, for me it had to be Jack Nicholson all the way.
As for the Poison Ivy outfit, well the mind boggles and I'm pretty broadminded. I'm think I might have to come over for movie night with you and The Tall One who I hope isn't too bound up with exams.
Love Jo xxx
A great layout! Love all the bats and that Helena sent you the photo xx
ReplyDeleteGreat bat pages, Robin! Love the bat punch:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliantly captioned photo. Love it! We're Batman fans here and indeed all things Marvel are loved by my boy.
ReplyDeleteFiona x
What a fun page - love the Joker card!
ReplyDeleteI have a big smile on my face. What a brilliant post - and i'm with you on Val Kilmer! I prefer the new Batman film....as well as all the other super heros films with my absolute favourite being Iron Man...
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic page Sian and its great how blogging brought you those amazing photos. Nice punch too x
I love that they bought you a bat punch for Mother's Day. So lovely to see the photo on a fabulous LO. Big smiles here!
ReplyDeleteThis is truly, truly brilliant ... I think your love and enjoyment of the subject really shines through
ReplyDeleteFabulous fun Sian! It's another great page and the photo is wonderful. Made me smile big smiles!
ReplyDeleteHoly Batman Sian, this is an awesome page! ;) What a terrific photo you were given. A fun topic to document. I was never into it much growing up but my girls went through a serious phase when the newer movies came out in the 90's. I made them capes and they would run around the neighbourhood playing. My husband can sometimes be heard saying, "Same bat time, same bat place."
ReplyDeleteHaha! What a fun page. Love the story behind it and the Joker card. Batman is not something I would have connected with you, so you learn something new every day, to quote Shimelle !
ReplyDeleteWe're Batman fans here as well. I remember watching the TV series as a child!!!
ReplyDeleteLove everything about this page.
Your page is so clever Sian and... very very cool!!!
ReplyDeleteFab page! my husband is a huge Batman fan too.
ReplyDeleteHoly Blogpost Sian - I didn't realise you were a Batfan! Being a child of the 60s my first Batman was Adam West - how I loved that tv programme. My dad owned a printing company at the time and he had a contract to produce batman stickers for a comic and one evening he brought home a few of the 'reject' stickers for me. Needless to say, my whole bike was covered in them by the next morning!
ReplyDeleteGreat page and what a fab photo.
What a lovely way to start my weekend - A Sian bat post x
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun page, Sian!
ReplyDeleteAlison xx
Oh I love this.
ReplyDeleteSee, I want to be a Batman girl. And a Spiderman girl. (And Wolverine's girl... but that's a whole other story! Hubba hubba!) I want to be able to reel off facts and be comic book geeky like my sister... but I had to admit to her I learnt most of my know how about them all from Big Bang. I really want to.
So this page tickles me and so does your story Sian. You become more and more one of my art/craft/woman heroes every day :)
Great page befitting a very cool photo gift! I remember watching Batman on TV when I was much younger and having a thing for Robin.
ReplyDeletevery cool. what we fun
ReplyDeleteReally great Lo & thats a wonderful gift to receive x
ReplyDeleteI JUST LOVE THIS PAGE :) Lush
ReplyDeleteI must be oriented more toward Star Trek--who wouldn't love a transporter or, even better, a replicator? (Self to replicator: a pot of my mother's chicken soup, please!)
ReplyDeleteIs this the right time to confess to not having seen any of them?! I'm not a scifi fan at all but an old school friend was on the stunt team for the Dark Night Rising.
ReplyDeleteI love your "bat" page. I have never seen a batman movie, but I do love Val Kilmer. Maybe I should check one out.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this page! All the little bits combined make a wonderful layout--all the references to Batman like the little bats flying around, the penguin, the joker card...how you journaled around the edges. Oh, it's just so good. Also, I have been a Val Kilmer fan from way back so any role he plays is OK with me--even though he is starting to look a bit doughy.
ReplyDeleteLike Amy, I think this page is sensational. Every embellishment reinforces the theme! I'm not a Batman fan at all, but part of the next Batman movie is being filmed right here in Rochester next month. There's a lot of hype about it, you can be sure!
ReplyDeleteThat's just brilliant. Did you know that there is a village called Gotham near Nottingham. So next time you are in England, look it up, make a detour and you could have a photo of you next to a sign saying Gotham!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen a Batman film, but I do like a good story ... and this one had me engrossed.
ReplyDeleteWookie & I watched the tv show with Adam West and then again movies with Michael Keaton. I've got photos of Ewok in a Batman costume as we felt it important that he knew and understand cultural references ;)
ReplyDeleteOops, I was wrong---it's not Batman that's filming here, it's Spiderman.
ReplyDeleteAnother massive Batman fan here, I love your page :)
ReplyDeleteThat page looked fun to make. The Joker is perfect. I am not really a batman fan, but the only one I like is with Val Kilmer LOL
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this layout Sian!
ReplyDeleteThe layout looks super and how great of Helena to send you that picture! I must say we're not really fans of Val Kilmer, don't know who my favourite is though.
