National Stationery Week: Send Someone a Card


Monday morning - and it's the start of National Stationery Week (a celebration of the written word and all things stationery) here in the UK. 

I was lucky enough to receive a real letter recently, from a long standing friend. Some of the news was happy, some was sad; and I've been thinking long and hard about my reply. For today my letter is propped up on my desk in front of me: a tangible reminder of a friendship which began when we were in Primary school. Long Live the Letter!
And Carry on the Card! This year I've been following along with the 52 card Challenge: checking out the prompts and storing up the ideas, making cards when I can. For National Stationery Week I decided to do some typewriter themed notecards


I printed mini photos of the typewriter from this month's Storytelling Sunday and chose a limited palette of colours taken from the typewriter itself.


Then I used it to type greetings onto journaling cards. Office colours and some grey stitching..and I've just realised that in this last one


you can't actually see from the photo that the stitching is in the shape of a giant speech bubble. That stamping I did with a little 99p alpha set from a bargain shop.

I'll have more stationery later on in the week. In the meantime - thank you to everyone who has signed up for The Great Big Swap of Very Small Things. We have over 40 names at the last count! If you have signed up you should have received a quick email from me (if you haven't, please get in touch) and I'll be emailing again next week after the closing date. Then we will all have the chance to put something in the post..

    They look great Sian - love the idea of a typewriter theme. Hmmm, haven't heard of stationery week here but I like the idea. I miss letters, maybe I'll write one today. Ok, I'm way behind in my reading and this bloglovin' starts at the most recent so I'll have to go back & check out this swap.

    Love your typewriter theme and using a small photo on your card. Writing letters and using stationary is becoming a lost art, glad to see it is still appreciated and celebrated in the UK.

    These are delightful! I didn't know about stationary week, but I've been busy making cards for all the upcoming birthdays and anniversaries. You've inspired me to pull out my typewriter stamps (though I like your photos much more!)

    Love the colour scheme you choose. Great cards and notelets, very modern looking. It's always nice to get snail mail especially from a friend. Otherwise it's all bills and junk mail isn't it?

    How fun to have a National Stationary Week. Your cards are always lovely - I incorporated one into one of my cruise layouts & it's perfect!

    I've been wanting to work on some cards and mail art lately, but just haven't found the inspiration . . . maybe today will be the day! :>)

    Your cards are beautiful. I love how you stamped that sentiment. I find cards so hard to make. I always see them as a chore. I wish I liked to make them. There is nothing better than a handmade card.

    I was oblivious to NSW so thanks for enlightening me! I'm mid handwritten letter to my Dad...he is a bit of a technophobe so I always pick up pen & paper when there's news to share! These cards are gorgeous..as always! :D

    It's stationary week? Oh I feel totally justified in the lovely new Indigo Blu stamps that just plopped through my door then :D

    Gorgeous, gorgeous cards and notelets Sian. I have that 99p stamp set as well as a couple other variants - they are probably among my most used in the world :)

    Great cards, Sian. The simple designs are so often the best. I think these are so good because of your careful choice of papers/colours. Love them!

    These are lovely - I like that you typed the sentiment with the typewriter in the photo.

    Keep being tempted by that swap idea, just not certain I can do one more thing right now :sigh:
