Sail On, Summer Scrapbooking

It's dark here. Very dark. And wet. Wet and dark. Dark and wet. Easter holiday weather. Every time I looked out of the window yesterday I thought about Cat In The Hat:

"Too wet to go out. And too cold to play ball. So we sat in the house. We did nothing at all."
Wait! "Nothing at all"? Unlikely! Not round here! (Though in my first Easter blogging I did write a post called Bringing the Boredom Back ). Of course, I scrapbooked:

Travel scrapbooking in a grid

Thanks to May Flaum's vacation class I've been skipping through a summer or two and printing out a stack of new (old) photos. ..

Details, details

...though this page gave me more trouble than any page I've made this year

1. It started out mostly pink. It started out with a lightly checked background. It started out with newsprint letters and little cork dots and pink washi and other bright ideas, none of which floated my boat - ha! - when I went to stick them down.

2. So you can see that I cut it apart and started again. Still pondering the pink, though. Before I finally changed tack - ha! (alright, I'll stop now) - and added more navy (that's an actual colour, not another bad joke). My pages never turn out the way I imagine them! But what can you do..

...it's only paper.

Have a good break if you are planning one over the weekend. Take pictures! See you  Monday?

  1. I love to see your pages and I really enjoy the extra pictures of your process. The ladies in my class were asking about mine yesterday. They were surprised to learn that I sit down with some stamps and supplies and see what comes, rather than having an end in mind.

  3. The final product is wonderful! I love everything about it. I find the hardest ones to create are often the ones I like the best! I especially like the way the arrangement of photos and the dimension you gave to them.

  4. Your page turned out amazing. So crisp. So true that some pages just give us trouble. I too have ripped things up before getting where I want. We still have snow here. Wet snow and yesterday winds up to 90 km. I stayed inside. At this point we just want warmth and are sick of the white stuff.

  5. I love the finished look of this ... it makes me think of a clipboard effect.
Still very windy here and wet overnight.

  11. Teehee! Glad it happens to other scrappers....I actually get a real buzz from starting with what I think I want....to ending up where the I want takes me, which often is far away!!! Personally, if you held up navy and pink....I'd plump for the navy. Good choice! Looks fab!!!!

  13. Great page! Of course, I like the pink, too, and rarely take color away from my layouts. I think the navy works perfectly here. Happy Easter! We're going to enjoy a nice quiet weekend at home as all our company is gone and it'll be a couple of months before our next vacation.

  16. So glad you trusted the process and have brought us this beautifully restful but interesting page, full of layers and texture and sea-side colours. What a lovely antidote to our dreary not-quite-Spring!

  17. I know what you mean about pages not coming out the way you originally imagine. I always love your artistic details. I'm not that kind of scrapbooker. Still, rarely do my pages end up how I think they will. Usually, I have more to say when it comes right down to it and everything else has to work around that! I really do need to try your ink technique. I love the little drops here and there.

  19. Navy definitely works better than pink for a nautical layout. Great end result and hope the weather has improved for you - it has been dire here but tomorrow is supposed to be really nice - here's hoping!

  20. The final result was definitely worth the effort. Love the navy. But even more, I love the subject matter. I want to be there.

  23. I think the navy goes perfectly with those pictures! That reminds me I signed up for May's class but with all that's been going on I completely forgot about it.
