Taking Tea with Little E

So, Little E, that rapscallion of a nephew of mine, turned four. He's a busy, busy boy these days, what with nursery school and world domination an' all. He has been on holiday, too: away to the sun for a few days. And it suited him just fine - for a couple of hours - until he realised how much he missed chicken nuggets and a bit of light vacuuming in the afternoons Plus, seeing Teddy Pippin go through the X-ray machine in the airport? That's just plain unsettling..

He told me all about it over a Happy Meal round at Granny's. The chat was excellent, the food was good, but the free toy wasn't living up to his high-fun expectations. "These aren't Googly Eyes, Auntie Sian, they're just - eyes."

So I moved forward by asking him what else he had been up to. He went on a Leprechaun Hunt for St. Patrick's Day (but I can't show you the picture of that..someone in the party, who really needs to remain nameless, was asked to dress up as the aforementioned leprechaun and is probably still waking up in a cold sweat thinking about it). He got a new Doctor Outfit (but I won't show you the picture of that..because the gleam in his eye makes him look like Steve Martin as the Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors). He likes to wear a Chef's hat and bake buns (and if I show you that picture, my budding chef here will be asking me why). But, most fun of all?

He's building his own boat. And who knows where it will take him.

  1. He is so cute! I can just hear his little voice filled with indignation over the "happy meal" toy. After all, that's the whole reason to get it!

  2. Ah yes ... as someone with a small selection of both moving and 'just eyes' ones myself ... I understand the age old question, if the eyes don't move can they truly be said to be 'googly'?

And that looks like one sturdy boat [can't wait for the inevitable launch ceremony!] May the wind be at his back!

  3. Rapscallion....the perfect word to describe your typical 4-year old boy! Haven't heard that one in a long time.

  4. He's growing so fast - he's a real Man nowadays!
I love to read about Little E's Adventures. When you're four, life is so full of possibilities.
The boat looks promising - I hope it takes him to far-away and exciting places; but always, of course, returning in time for lunch or tea.

  9. So cute! I winced at the thought of Teddy Pippin going through the X-Ray - you have to wonder what little people make of such things. Loving the boat, I hope little E has amazing adventures in it!

  17. As is always the case, it is a big box which trumps all other fancy toys ... well, exceptions are made for vacuum cleaners!

  20. How wonderful. My nephew is just 6 months older than Little E. He loves baking too and has reached the non-stop chatter phase. Only trouble is he has such a quiet little voice that his poor deaf Grandad can't hear him!

  32. I remember having to prise Winnie the Pooh from Princess's arms for the xray machine - wasn't fun. I too like rapscallion as a description for little E - or any four year old boy. Boat building is a good hobby - lots of adventures there.

  33. I adore that picture. And I don't blame him - I think any of my toys going through and X-Ray would have freaked me... although... hmmm, maybe not :)

I can't wait to see the boat when it's come out of the boat yard - I do hope he'll let you share.
