The Frosty Festivities Blog Hop

Hello! Are you ready for some real winter weather? It's Jennifer's Frosty Festivities Blog Hop today, so I'm thinking about snow..

...which means I need to offer you a very warm welcome! Maybe you have arrived from Sarah's? Come on in! You'll already know about the big blog event over at Jennifer's Jumbles. But if this is your first frosty stop of the day, I need to tell you about the Grand Prize. Comment on every blog in the hop, finish up at Jennifer's and let her know you have done a full round - then you'll be in with a chance of a frostily fabulous prize pack. And while you're there, you can check out her weekend of activities. she has a lot planned!

So, back to that snow..

We're not famous for snow round here. we don't get a lot. But two years ago we were hit by a series of heavy, heavy blizzards: the worst in living memory. It was crunchy underfoot as The Accountant and I set out for the city centre and some last minute Christmas shopping; so it wasn't long before we were holed up in Starbucks and not shopping at all. With our first sip, the snow started to fall again; and, in the half hour we sat there, the streets emptied, the shoppers disappeared and the storm settled in.

We knew we had to get home fast. But, before we left, I took one simple photo with my phone. We were almost completely on our own, in the middle of the city, and we could barely see our hands in front of our faces. It was magical.

Bicycle from Crate Paper Storyteller;bird from Studio Calico; papers from Pink Paislee and MME. Journaling on pull out tag.

And now I've scrapbooked it. Thanks to the Frosty festivities! I'm getting ready to check out the rest of the frosty goings on while you head straight to Jennifer's. Remember, there is a gorgeous prize of Basic Grey and Carta Bella to be won and a lot to see along the way...

  1. I've always loved the real blizzards - the ones where you know you have no choice but to settle in for the duration and it is so quiet and beautiful outside... until the snow plows come around.

  4. Gorgeous, gorgeous layout, Sian! I love the little pops of stronger colours, and the layering, and the distressing - and the story, of course! Yes, we're not known for snowfall here either, so it's always exciting when we actually get some :) Until the novelty wears off, that is....

  6. I love your snowy page, with its distressed, torn-edge look, and a great photo! Makes me (almost) look forward to the blizzards we will inevitably get up here in the next few months. A great introduction to Jennifer's weekend and hope it's all a great success. :)

  11. I remember taking photos at the same time roughly. It was like Narnia here.

  12. this is when I particularly love the snow just as it is falling, coating the earth in fluffy clean sparkling white stuff...... magical, your page and your journalling totally reflected this xxx

  13. That is an absolutely wonderful photo,Sian.....and you've scrapped it beautifully.
I love seeing snow falling...it's the aftermath I hate.

  14. I figure if we are to be disabled with a snow storm, it should be a really big one. The first day of snow is wonderful but as the days go on, I want the snow gone.

  15. I bet it was like the "olden days" of Christmas shopping with no cars about and just the odd few people dotted about. Magical as you say. I hope you got hope okay!

  16. Stunning layout Sian! I love the distressed edges. And the pops of red really help draw your eyes to the bus in the photo. It really does look magical! I don't think I've ever been in a snowy city, maybe one day!

Thanks so much for joining in with the hop! x

  19. Yes, that page really does work! A fab little photo and such a pretty page to showcase it. A lovely way to keep a special little memory.
Love that little red bicycle, Sian!

  20. I love a good snow. We don't get much around here either. But I can still remember all of our white Christmases growing up in St. Louis. Snow days from school were the best!! Thanks for the reminder.

  23. As always, a gorgeous layout Sian. I love a snow blizzard but they can be scary. Last one I was caught in was on the way to work. I had travelled about 35 miles in good time, then the snow fell. The last 5 miles took me hours!

  24. Thanks for sharing that special memory!

  25. Gorgeous layout - love how the little hints of red make it all pop. I remember that snow - I ended up marooned in the house for nearly three weeks as it took forever to disappear round here. I know lots of people love it but hope it is a long time before we have snow like that again.

  26. I love blizzards - when I'm cosy and warm INside and have nowhere I need to be and with everyone else home safe with me! I do love being out in the snow when it's deadened all the sounds - there's a thick cotton-woolly silence that's special to wintry weather!

  28. Lovely details, as always Sian.

  29. Nothing like a blizzard to get you in the spirit! I like the way the colors in the pic look colored in and the rest like a black and white pic. Neat looking.

  30. I love newly fallen snow...but loose the glow when it becomes rutted from footprints and then freezes over into impassable, icy paths!
    Drat.

This is a lovely photo and an equally lovely layout!!!

  31. I do love this. Somehow you've made it seem as if we're viewing your page through a blizzard. Gorgeous

  32. Your page reflects the stillness that snow often brings with it. a Beautiful layout, Sian. Have a great hopping weekend.

  36. Great photo, great story, great layout---as usual, I might add! It reminds me of a photo I took with my phone last winter that's worthy of a page.

  37. That is a stunning page. Love the bike
We were caught in a blizzard when holidaying with my BIL in New England - it was amazing

  38. I think that was the year that Wookie & I drove through a blizzard to get home. Hmm, haven't scrapped that - although I did blog it.

I too like the repetition of the buildings and washi tape/paper layers along the right hand edges. Such a pretty page.

  39. An amazing photo and I love the layers and distressing on your LO. It is lovely!! The paper choices are great and I love the border effect! We have settled into an early winter here. We are trying to embrace the season although I have to admit to feeling jealous as I watched our national news the other night and saw that one of our eastern provinces had beautiful weather and lush green grass. ;) We have been spending more time at Starbuck's hugging a hot latte and enjoying the new Christmas decor.

  48. Beautiful layout! We missed snow last year, not a drop fell and we usually get our share. It felt really weird and I have a feeling that Mother Nature will make up for it and I will have a blizzard photo to scrap.
