So, back to that snow..
We're not famous for snow round here. we don't get a lot. But two years ago we were hit by a series of heavy, heavy blizzards: the worst in living memory. It was crunchy underfoot as The Accountant and I set out for the city centre and some last minute Christmas shopping; so it wasn't long before we were holed up in Starbucks and not shopping at all. With our first sip, the snow started to fall again; and, in the half hour we sat there, the streets emptied, the shoppers disappeared and the storm settled in.
We knew we had to get home fast. But, before we left, I took one simple photo with my phone. We were almost completely on our own, in the middle of the city, and we could barely see our hands in front of our faces. It was magical.

I've always loved the real blizzards - the ones where you know you have no choice but to settle in for the duration and it is so quiet and beautiful outside... until the snow plows come around.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous, gorgeous layout, Sian! I love the little pops of stronger colours, and the layering, and the distressing - and the story, of course! Yes, we're not known for snowfall here either, so it's always exciting when we actually get some :) Until the novelty wears off, that is....

I figure if we are to be disabled with a snow storm, it should be a really big one. The first day of snow is wonderful but as the days go on, I want the snow gone.

ReplyDeleteStunning layout Sian! I love the distressed edges. And the pops of red really help draw your eyes to the bus in the photo. It really does look magical! I don't think I've ever been in a snowy city, maybe one day!

I love a good snow. We don't get much around here either. But I can still remember all of our white Christmases growing up in St. Louis. Snow days from school were the best!! Thanks for the reminder.

ReplyDeleteAs always, a gorgeous layout Sian. I love a snow blizzard but they can be scary. Last one I was caught in was on the way to work. I had travelled about 35 miles in good time, then the snow fell. The last 5 miles took me hours!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous layout - love how the little hints of red make it all pop. I remember that snow - I ended up marooned in the house for nearly three weeks as it took forever to disappear round here. I know lots of people love it but hope it is a long time before we have snow like that again.
ReplyDeleteI love blizzards - when I'm cosy and warm INside and have nowhere I need to be and with everyone else home safe with me! I do love being out in the snow when it's deadened all the sounds - there's a thick cotton-woolly silence that's special to wintry weather!

Nothing like a blizzard to get you in the spirit! I like the way the colors in the pic look colored in and the rest like a black and white pic. Neat looking.

I think that was the year that Wookie & I drove through a blizzard to get home. Hmm, haven't scrapped that - although I did blog it.

An amazing photo and I love the layers and distressing on your LO. It is lovely!! The paper choices are great and I love the border effect! We have settled into an early winter here. We are trying to embrace the season although I have to admit to feeling jealous as I watched our national news the other night and saw that one of our eastern provinces had beautiful weather and lush green grass. ;) We have been spending more time at Starbuck's hugging a hot latte and enjoying the new Christmas decor.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful layout! We missed snow last year, not a drop fell and we usually get our share. It felt really weird and I have a feeling that Mother Nature will make up for it and I will have a blizzard photo to scrap.
