"Well," I said, "sometimes when you big kids are off doing the kind of big kid stuff you don't want me writing about, that gives me a chance to think about little kid stuff again. And, besides, Little E can't argue back."
"He CAN argue back," said The (Not So) Small One. "He argues with me all the time.."
"And," I said, "I have a debt to repay. You have to remember that Little E's Mum has been your Auntie for a long time now and a fine job she's been making of it. Note the extra pocket money she leaves for you and the perfect boots which arrived in the post for your birthday. And the lengths she went to find the most excellent hamster in the country last Christmas.."
Oh, yes. there is big kid stuff to talk about and little kid stuff to laugh about and sometimes I'm glad of one when I've run out of the other. As they get bigger their news becomes more private; and that's what my page is about today. The design isn't mine: it comes from Art of Layers by Ronda Palazzari. I opened it at the first project and it showed pull-out tags and I thought - perfect. And what will I be writing on the tags? Some of that big kid stuff. The kind they like to keep to themselves.
Happy Tuesday!
love it! great story too.
ReplyDeletegreat page - and great solution to scrapping about the stories not to be broadcast
ReplyDeleteIts scary how the years roll by and the little kid stuff becomes big kid stuff! Love that page - great idea for hiding away some private thoughts.
ReplyDeletePerfect! You bought a smile to my face Sian on this rainy day
ReplyDeleteThat is a great page and I love the story of why you talk about Little E so much, hope the (Not so) Small one understands now.
ReplyDeleteI've certainly found they definately don't like you writing about their big kid stuff.....and they're not so keen on their photos being shown either.
ReplyDelete"Everybody in cyber space can see that awful photo" said DD2...."Probably only the half dozen that read my blog" I replied [thinking about the far worse photos she happily puts on her Facebook page]!!!
Uh Oh! Looks like my days of publishing uncensored details of my big kid stuff may be numbered then! But I'll keep going until they twig!! LOL!! Love this LO & this story too! :D
ReplyDeleteLove this post Sian! I could write a book on "teen taboo topics"!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't spotted the tags - had to go back up for another looksee. What a great idea and a great story too :)
ReplyDeleteLoved reading this post. So true. Lovely LO and design. I'm loving linear these days. The tags are great and that little Crate Blue Bird is sweet. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely page, and a great use for those hidden tags. I have often wondered whether my two will look back at my blog in the future and complain that I shared so many photos of them, but I'll keep going until that day! x
ReplyDeleteA lovely layout. Very 'you'! and an interesting post too
ReplyDeleteSian you do have a way of reflecting on everyday stuff that we can all relate to. Thanks for sharing your thoughts even when you can't share other things - like big kid stuff. And I had planned on scraplifting that very same Rhonda layout, although I doubt I would have thought to pair pink paper with sneakers!
ReplyDeleteI think the tag "drama" probably sums up the "big kid" stuff here for the girl!
ReplyDeleteRinda
this is a day I dread.....and it's coming round mighty quick. Gone too will be the days of innocent comments and posed photos!
ReplyDeleteyay for tuckaway tags.
A very pretty layout Sian, i like how you've clustered down the side of the photo.
Sweet page - nice to commemorate the really important things in a not so small one's life!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great layout & it's so true - my older nieces never tell my anything anymore. But I still enjoy the twins fun stuff.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair Sian, little E comes out with some classic one liners......who wouldn't want to document it. Your right the biggies just don't share like they used to, all private thoughts and gadding about town now. Lovely layout:)
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to read about Little E but also lovely to read about the Tall one and the Not So Small One. I am struggling with my scrapping at the moment as I love to journal - I have all the photos I could ask for from facebook but none of the stories that go with them.
ReplyDeleteSo lovely to look at, this page. I love the pink wood effect with the very flowery ribbon on the tags. Finding 'secret' ways to journal is always useful!
ReplyDeletethis contrast of blue and pink is great here - if I hadn't already used my pink woodgrain paper I'd get right onto this colour combo :-)
ReplyDeleteGood thoughts there Sian, I too am finding that I scrap the littlest most as he is so out there and hangs with me more than the others.
ReplyDeleteOh and hello Converse, my favourite shoes ever, I had a pair which had pastel blue on one side, pastel green on the other with pink tongues. I would pay good money for another pair :)
Finding new ways to journal and blog as family dynamics change is always on my mind, it looks as though you have found a god solution!
ReplyDeleteI just smiled a big smile when I saw your page. I love how you took those bright blue shoes and created a page with such charm and whimsy. Totally you!
ReplyDeleteHi Sian ~ I love this layout and your story that goes with it. Being an aunt is one of my favorite things, and I completely understand your love and affection for little E.
ReplyDeleteI also love having little ones in the mix while my big-kid offers her own antics for me to enjoy. I LOL'd when I saw your little tag that reads "drama." Perfect! ;o)
There is definately more blog fodder with little ones, both from the point of view of their antics AND them not wanting to veto what you share about them!Lovely page Sian
ReplyDeleteAlison xx
Sian - you sure have lots of interesting things to share with us even if the big kids do not wish to have information/photos shared here about them.
ReplyDeleteI do find it interesting - my friends monitor what the kids share on Facebook and generally what I see here, most kids have no issues sharing information via social media. So good for the big kids in knowing what they do not want shared :)
I will say though - Little E makes for good conversation (I did share with hubby about the "Hoovers" and we had a good chuckle :)
I love this layout and the story behind it. Beautiful colours
ReplyDeleteGlad that I have a few more years of sharing stories without censorship. And the big thing is, in years to come, TTO and TNSSO will be so glad that you've recorded stuff and will worry not that it might have been blogged, they'll just be happy to have that reminder of a memory or two.
ReplyDeleteI guess I have all this to come! I think I'm looking forward to it.. maybe..
ReplyDeleteA beautiful layout and a great tale of growing children :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about some of that big kid stuff being private. I've found that it's when years go by, I'm able to scrapbook the not so "fun" times about those big kids.
ReplyDeleteLove the page, and how you can hide the important stuff so its just kept private :)
ReplyDeleteThe art of layers? Sounds fun - wish I could get time to read as fast as I find books to read.
ReplyDeleteI love using tags for these sorts of things, or flaps - amazing how much can be hidden behind a flap :)
I too find cute kid photos and stories help me remember why the teens made it to be teens... ;)
