So, the very day I get my lenses sorted out for fine sewing I go into my needlework box and, at the bottom of it, I find a tiny piece of cross stitch I did many years ago (I think the chart was from Jo Verso's World Of Cross Stitch
It looked a bit lost and unloved, so I had a think about what I could use it for and I decided to add it to a page about donuts and to give that page a 4th July theme. I have other stories about donuts (which of course I should be spelling doughnuts, but sometimes you run out of "g"s, you know?) because round here we know them as "gravy rings" and...but that's for another day. Today's page is dedicated to my American readers with wishes for a Happy Fourth July. Have a good one!

ReplyDeleteWonderful, Sian! Love that bunting too, and your little piece of cross-stitch has found a perfect home! Gravy rings - ahh, yes, remember these. Never knew why they were called these. I never ate mine with gravy in the middle, but hoping you are going to tell us in a future post one day!

ReplyDeletewhat a feb story. jo verson's book was the first cross stitch book i ever bought. i used it to design my parent's 25th wedding anniversary sampler. the sampler was bought but i adapted it to show things personnel to them like my dad being an engineer, my mum being a seamstress. there were little babies for me and money for my sister's job, i did a Tor for Glastonbuty and apples and cider. the most detailed thing i did was a merchant navy cap badge cos my dad was in that while they were courting. it still hangs in their dining room so we see it at sunday dinner.

No wonder your eyes are wearing out ... look how intricate and TINY that cross stitch is! This is a wonderful layout Sian and very appropriate for today. Loving the look of those donuts - no matter how you spell it, they still taste delicious!

ReplyDeleteLove the layout. The little cross-stitch man looks rather "Uncle Sam" and the spelling of "Donuts" is just right for a US-themed layout.
"Gravy Rings" is a bit intriguing though...
The navy doileys, red stars and bunting title all look great with the embroidery and donut photo - especially on that "accountant's paper" background.
Another fabulous layout! I love how you've incorporated the cross-stitch embroidery...so appropriate for the 4th! And those donuts look delicious :)

Good idea about the postcard, I may have to try that one. I am really excited to get the camera out and play with it again. I agree it is so exciting to get the batch back from the developers!
