I know I've said it before: isn't it great when one project you've been working on leads into another? I would never have got to this page if my scrapbooking friend Helen hadn't put out an appeal for warm woolly hats. I could knit some hats, I thought, and I did. Then I found a book of patterns, I knitted a skull and crossbones hat and it turned into this:
Then I knitted another and it turned into this:
A wardrobe of hats and scarves for a little boy I know. And then I thought, if I can put a fringe on a scarf, what would a fringe on a page look like? So I tried it out:
I punched a couple of holes and cut some lengths of embroidery thread and knotted them through and I kind of like it. A tone on tone version would add a nice border to a wedding page or (and if I have the patience some day soon, I'm going to try this) a big circle with a yellow fringe right round would be a great base for a page about lions. Or would black on black be menacing enough for a page about killer penguins? Mmm
I like your pirate layout Sian, especially the journaling around the outside of the page.
ReplyDeletefringe on a page - interesting concept! Where does the fringe go when you put the page into a protector?
ReplyDeleteStunning page! I mean truly awsome!!! xxx
ReplyDeleteLovely page, all that white space is perfect for the photo.
ReplyDeleteLove that page. Each off the little embellies is perfect! And I really like how it looks like the sun is shining on the precocious reader.

Great page! Is the bit on the lower right inset? Looks almost like a window from here ... and I am a user and admirer of fringes on LOs too!
ReplyDeleteIt's a glorious layout, Sian! I love the layering in the corner and the space in the middle. And the fringeing idea looks great too! I do love your photography.. :)

ReplyDeletePurling Pirates, Knots to Know and Killer Penguins... hmmm..
ReplyDeleteI really love this layout, Sian! What a shame that S.I. is no more... you'd get this one published there for certain. Your choice of embellishments is inspired and I love how you have used some of your journalling as a frame for the page.
I admire anyone who can make a layout with one small photo, oceans (pun!) of "white" space and layered embellishments, but assemble it with such consummate skill that it looks perfect. "White Space" is not my forte. You have my sincere admiration...
Love the hats btw and the fringe idea is lovely - I will remember, when it becomes the next big scrapping trend, that I saw it here first!
