Shimelle's Crop Party

Hurray! I've managed to fit a bit of scrapbooking into my weekend and I really didn't think that was going to happen. But you know Shimelle..she's kind of persuasive and kind of inspiring; so I wasn't all that surprised when I found myself heading over to her blog to check out the challenges. I've finished two so far:

This one:

for the cupcake challenge. It gave me the perfect opportunity to use a lovely felt cupcake I received in a swap last year on UKScrappers. It came complete with cupcake recipes (isn't that a neat idea?) so I added the original (crumpled because it's been used) to my page. And of course it's 6x12 so it can go in my "Celebrate Life" album.

This one:

is for the bunting challenge. You can see there is an empty space where the journalling should be and I will finish it. I just need to decide how I'm going to pull together the threads: it started as a page about The Small One's yellow coat, which made me think of sailing, which made me think of the phrase "stars to steer by", which made me think about guiding lights and school and friends and, well, all sorts of things, really. But you can see where I'm headed with it, I hope, and I'll let you know when I get there.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

  21. Lovely Cupcake page - such fun and the colours are so cheerful and "cup-cake"-ish!

    The Small One has a lovely coat; it does remind me also, of the old Fisherman's Oilskin.
    "All I ask is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by..." is a rather inspiring line really.

    Sea Fever
    I must go down to the seas again,
    to the lonely sea and the sky,
    And all I ask is a tall ship
    and a star to steer her by,
    And the wheel's kick and the wind's song
    and the white sail's shaking,
    And a grey mist on the sea's face
    and a grey dawn breaking.

    I must go down to the seas again,
    for the call of the running tide
    Is a wild call and a clear call
    that may not be denied;
    And all I ask is a windy day
    with the white clouds flying,
    And the flung spray and the blown spume,
    and the sea-gulls crying.

    I must go down to the seas again
    to the vagrant gypsy life,
    To the gull's way and the whale's way
    where the wind's like a whetted knife;
    And all I ask is a merry yarn
    from a laughing fellow rover,
    And quiet sleep and a sweet dream
    when the long trick's over.
