Unseasonal In Parts

This morning we woke to a soft covering of snow. It's falling still, so we'll stay inside today with soup and scrapbooking. A Sunday filled with cooking and creating is always a good one.

How I wish now I had saved some of the berries we gathered one Sunday last September. I could bake a blackberry and apple pie. I took photos, though, and made this page:

No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace
As I have seen in one autumnal face

comes from John Donne's  Autumnal; and actually doesn't really fit here at all, because it's a poem about maturity, I think, and not all of the lines are complimentary. The face in my autumn photo is a young and lovely one; but I'm still using the phrase I found and admired. And if The Small One finds this page and flips it over and discovers more of Donne's fine words- maybe years from now-  I'll consider it a job well done. A scrapbook page worth making.

  1. What could be better soup and scrapbooking - well maybe the addition of a blackberry and apple pie :)

  2. What a lovely page - one that I'm sure your daughter will treasure! I love how you used the cut-out flowers as embellishments too.

  3. We seem to have got the rain and not the snow, but we're spending the day indoors too! Very pretty and I'm sure your daughter will appreciate it. Those flowers are a lovely touch.

  4. We haven't got the snow today (had sleet yesterday) but it's cold enough for us to want to stay indoors too. I'm just starting on a baby quilt for my SIL but soup for lunch sounds good.

  6. A beautiful page...and one for TSO to treasure in years to come.Must admit the only John Donne I ever remember is the 'no man is an island' writing....and I do love that.

  8. Love the colours in this page, and also the way you have cut out the flowers to overlap and form a frame around the photo. Beautiful.

  9. Lovely page, Sian, and, as always, such lovely writing! We have gently falling rain today, and I think we do have some blackberries in the freezer from last June. . . must take look. Today is a day for me to fold clothes, clean my craft desk and hopefully do some art journaling.

  16. I love how you have created dimension on this page Sian and how it looks as the TSO is picking a flower from the tree.
