Memos, Mail, Me: It's Monday (and I'm not drying dishes)

So, Monday, it looks like we're on! We threw our new idea out to the world last week and the Mondayers seem to like it. Now there's a relief! I think we might even have persuaded one or two Monday-ing Freshers to try us out: wouldn't that be excellent?

Of course coming up with a plan is only the beginning for me. First week out, I was under pressure to come up with the goods. I needed an interesting piece of mail with which to Monday. I hovered near the letterbox. I rifled through a stack of brown envelopes. I held up to the light the ones not actually addressed to me. Oh, no: wait, I didn't. But I can't say I wasn't tempted. And then it happened. The doorbell rang and a minute later I was saved. I had in my hands a very fresh looking (for it had travelled a long way..) white envelope, marked with that most exciting of stickers...

...Airmail!

A squishy parcel from my dear blogging, scrapbooking friend, Mardi in Australia. Inside the envelope was a beautifully wrapped (yes I took a picture and a day later I used the wrapping paper on a layout) package; and inside that I discovered the nicest tea towel I have ever owned.

I will  not be drying dishes with this one. It's cute enough to be framed. So, thank you Mardi: not only for the beautiful gift, but also for saving my bacon. Today I have post to post about; and that is entirely down to you.

Of course, next week I could be back to brown envelopes; and if that's the case, I'll regress. Why not? If you have no post which pleases you, then absolutely, yes, keep on writing about your weekend, or what you have learned, or what's new. Just keep on writing! My weekend? Pretty budget conscious, thanks. We went into town to look for buttons for the cardigan I'm knitting for Uncle Dave. My usual shop wanted one of my hard earned pounds for each button. So I backed out of there and we found a different shop, whereupon The Accountant, my better half, proved worthy of his name (it's not a career, it's a lifestyle choice) and found, in the bargain box, five of exactly the right buttons at exactly the right price. Five pence. When we got home I gave him a piece of my Terry's chocolate orange to celebrate.

Have a good week! Oh, and got mail? Let's hear about it!

Deb, Helena, Mitra, Mary-Lou, Alexandra, Jane, KraftyKaren, Karen, Melissa all joined in last week. Go on, give 'em a wave! Go say hello!

I'm fascinated how teatowels have continued as a nice thing even when many of us have dishwashers - I can't think of the last time I actually dried a dish - but I do love a nice teatowel to use to cover warm bread for the table or to save my hands from burning - and even at times to save the front of my clothes from a spill and to adorn my kitchen walls. £1 for a button sounds extortionate and I like the idea of accountancy as a lifestyle choice. Have a great week.

What a lovely thing to receive in the mail - the universe (&friends) were listening. Last birthday a friend wrapped my gift in a lovely teatowel.

Are we keeping the title Memorandum Monday so as to found?

I'm encouraging everyone to try out the new title :) The old one is starting to feel a bit...old; and it doesn't have "mail" anywhere in it.

I like the new title Sian and hope to join in one day. I have so many posts pending, just no time to write them right now. I treated myself to some new tea towels recently as we didn't replace our dishwasher when it finally broke. My husband is the chief washer-up so that works well for me! ;)
I love receiving happy post and books have been flying through my letter box these past couple of weeks. I really am trying to declutter, but that makes way for new ones! Doesn't quite work, does it?!
I love the bargain buttons - £1 each is a lot - well done the accountant!

a lovely gift, I don't have a dish washer so like a pretty tea towel to make the job a little more interesting. Well done on the buttons, it's so satisfying when that happens.

Once again, I thought the mail would be a problem since I'm at Sarah's still, but then I remembered I have received a package here, so later, after Caleb's "friends" birthday party, I'll get a post up. As for yours, that is one beautiful looking towel. The cost of buttons (and other materials) is one reason why I stopped sewing years ago! Lucky to find just what you needed at a bargain price.

What a pretty tea towel, Mr P is head dryer upper in our house and he only likes towelling tea towels so a lovely one like that would be destined to stay in a drawer. Mind you it is far too lovely to be used, I like the idea of framing it.

Well done to the Accountant for finding cheaper buttons - we only have one shop now in our nearest town that sells buttons and they are a chain and charge the earth - £1 or more per button - so I get most of mine online now. I love it when we are away on holiday and find a lovely old fashioned haberdashery store, I often buy buttons with no project in mind, just because they are pretty - which is why my Mum is always raiding my button boxes LOL!!

Have a great week and hope it is filled with lots of happy mail!!

What a beautiful tea towel and that wrapping paper is so scrap worthy! I have some tea towels that are only for drying clean hands on. Too pretty for dishes. LOL

That is a lovely tea towel and a lovely gift. We have seen some lovely ones out here and I think a few people will be getting them as gifts. I note Helena wonders why they are still used as much. There are always some items that I won't put in the dishwasher so I definitely use mine.

What a lovely surprise - I definitely wouldn't be able to use that to dry dishes either! It's a holiday here in my corner of the world and so we aren't getting any mail today. Not that I'm expecting anything exciting anyway, and at least there won't be any bills!

I agree, it is exciting to see that Airmail stamp/sticker!!

What a fabulous package you received, at just the right time! That wrapping paper definitely called out to be used right away!

I've posted about my happy mail today, too. :)

Yeay for Accountants: they always know where the money goes and how to get most value :). That is indeed a beautiful tea-towel ... and I like the wrapping paper too.

I have to say that mail is pretty neat. Of course it is. It's from Australia, LOL!! Glad you found some neat and cheap buttons, too.... save the pennies etc etc! And it's lovely the mail idea is coming along nicely :)

I like tea towels and dry dishes daily - even with the dishwasher, we have things to be hand washed (my mocha mug for example) or they come out a bit damp.

Yeah for presents for Australia, in time for Anzac Day too.

Definitely a good find and your comment about accountant being a lifestyle choice made me smile :)

Can't beat a lovely tea-towel, and even though it's lovely, I'd still use it, because that way I would see it (otherwise it would just sit in a drawer). Choosing which tea towel to use next is fun too! I kind of joined in with the mail today (not a Monday, but as always I'm late to the dance). I don't get much brag-worthy post, but you've given me a few future ideas for some Mailbox related blog posts :-) Thanks as always for being an inspiration. Theresa

That's far to lovely to actually use! What a lovely bit of surprise post to brighten up a Monday.
I had already written my post on Monday and had nothing to report and then the postman arrived mid morning and gave me the perfect opportunity for a late edit!

You always manage to make an interesting post when you seemingly are struggling! That's a gift, my friend! I'm going to join in on this meme starting Monday!

I love your post (through the letter box type not just blog type) and well done to the Accountant for finding the buttons, will he have to put payment by Terry's Chocolate Orange on his tax return? :)

Finally the hectic rush has died down from the wedding celebrations (friends stayed on for a week afterwards)...and I can actually not feel guilty about being online for a blog catchup. I always love reading your posts.. and just knowing this little gift made its way safely makes me happy.
